1845 - The U.S. Naval Academy was established in Annapolis.

1935 - George Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess" opened on Broadway.

1967 - The Outer Space Treaty, making the moon and other celestial bodies the common property of the human race and banning the deployment of weapons of mass destruction in space, went into effect.

1973 - Vice President Spiro Agnew resigned after pleading no contest to tax evasion.

Tax evasion used to be against the law for EVERYBODY. Some of you younger folk may not know this.

The tax evasion charge was for not reporting illegal income consisting of hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes. That was real money back them.

My take-away from this and similar incidents is that if yer gonna take bribes or steal, ya better get enough to spend the rest of your life somewhere you can't be expedited from.
