Class A Misdemeanor, what am I limited too?

I do have a CHL, my Class A (Defd Adj) happened in 1997, but I wanted to take it to the next level, with Law Enforcement, and read you cannot be one with ANY class A.
So knowing this is there anything I can do, to help the community with Law Enforcement? I have A full time Job as it is, but was interested in doing Reserve LEO, but that's not possible
IS there anything out there that I can help that would evolve being Armed or NOT (sounds weird)?
Thanks,
CrazyHorse89

There is no "next level" for a CHL other than more training and practice. A CHL is not an LEO in-training permit.

I in NO-WAY suggested I was a LEO in training, so If you could answer my question that would be appreciated.

Ok
I'm not one to put my dirty laundry out there, so forgive me, this is not something that I want to share but don't want to waste my money or efforts just to be rejected....the only thing I have in my backgroud are the following, I can get from Online Records that show every piece of document ...
I'm not proud, since moved on with my life married wife kids, etc, Started to love shooting and have a strong desire to get my CHL.
1. Arrest misdemeanor Class A, dated 1997 (assault) Deffered Adj with completed Probation and Anger Mgt Course
2. Arrest misdemeanor Class A, dated 1997 (Drug Offenses) Defferd Adj with completed Probation and Drug class
IF anyone cas assist i would greatly appreciate it, any tips on getting my CHL expedited I would be willing to pay extra, if anyone knows how. I live in Cypress Area North West of Houston.
Thank You

IANAL, but I believe deferred adjudication is only considered to be a conviction for CHL purposes. It might not be a conviction for law enforcement. Not sure, just saying, you might want to check real close with the agency you are interested in applying to.
Best of luck to you!

Crazy Horse 89,
Does your community have a COP (Citizens on Patrol) program? That may be an option. Go to your local Cop Shop and talk to them there may be some volunteer programs you could get involved in.
Good luck

Sorry, my bad - I should have looked at the date more closely.

From the frequently asked questions portion of the TCLEOSE (they issue the license to be a peace officer)website:
When I was a young adult, I received deferred adjudication for a Class A Misdemeanor. Someone told me that this disqualifies me from becoming a peace officer in Texas, is that correct?
Yes, adult Class A Misdemeanor conviction or court-ordered community supervision (adjudicated or deferred) is a lifetime disqualification for licensure as a peace officer or jailer in the state of Texas.

Hope this helps.

I got a secret security clearance in the Air Force 2 years after a non-violent deferred/adj Class A Misdemeanor (for pot). I did report it on my CHL application, but the Air Force never got the information

security clearence for .mil and being an officer of the state are two entirely different things. As was said, anything over class B is a total DQ for Texas LEO (including Game Warden). it is crazy though, I know a guy who is in the U.S. Marshalls who has a similar class A pot Deferred in the early 1990's. If really want to try, try federal.
