Too late - I guess the apt complex already backed down - but just where would they get such an asinine idea anyway. Just who was going to be offended?

We've just RV'd the Oregon coast and then up the Columbia River to Idaho and beyond. Oregon is a beautiful contradiction in terms. For example, open carry is allowed for its residents while recognizing NO OTHER state's CHL. There is no state income tax or sales tax. Is this liberal or what? I dunno?

If you watch the video linked the KATU anchorman said that the ACLU said that the residents rights weren't being violated because it was on private property. Wow, the good o'l ACLU always there to defend the worthy just cause of middle America. Thanks ACLU, where would liberal, anti-American, facist, power tripping, wanna be dictator apartment managers be without you......<--FYI that's a rehtoricle question, I already know the answer.

All the Muslim terrorists. They were trying to create an emotion free zone.

We can know that if an illegal (probably oriental on West Coast) wanted to fly their flag & a WWll American vet's widow was offended, she would have to get over it & the aclu, (lower case letters intended to reflect their character) would be right there to defend them.
Man we need a puke icon. :banghead:

This is disgusting.

I fly the American Flag everyday. Right on the front of my house. If anyone has a problem with that I invite them to come and try and take it down. I have MUCH stronger feelings toward this issue that cannot be discussed openly on this board :rules:

I have mispoken. Oregon does have a state income tax.

Some years back there was an incident involving Vietnamese Americans at UT Arlingon. In one of the engineering buildings, Nedderman Hall, there *was* the Hall of Flags which had the national flag for every student's home country. It was a really cool setup; nearly every nation was represented by at least one student at one time or another. The issue, as I remember it, arose when a Vietnamese American objected to the current Vietnamese national flag being flown, which I understand Vietnamese Americans don't recognize. I think they wanted that particular flag to have "fine print" attached to the effect of the flag didn't represent Vietnamese Americans (I'm serious) and/or and to have their own flag up to represent them.

It was totally political, and once I read up on the issue I empathized with the Vietnamese Americans but was irritated that the U.S. flag wasn't good enough to represent them since they are, apparently, only enjoying U.S. assylum indefinitely rather than integrating. (I'm generalizing, which is a logical error, but I inferred from the general attitude displayed during the demonstrations and from what I read that at least some Vietnamese Americans still haven't embraced life here and harken back to pre-war Vietnam) These were flags from soveriegn nations and, as such, there was no real justification for wanting an unrecognized flag up. I totally appreciate their feelings about it, I do, but the Hall of Flags was about students from other nations, not other nationalities, and it certainly wasn't meant as a forum for political discourse; in fact quite the opposite.

The whole thing spun up into this big ordeal with protests and demonstrations and all the bells and whistles. This went on until the state (if I remember right) threatened to withdraw funding if the issue wasn't resolved yesterday, and the decision was made to pull ALL the flags down. A couple of years passed before they unveiled their final solution:

A hall of homogenized blue flags with country names printed in orange. It was so absurd to celebrate international diversity with identical flags that I had to excuse myself from their boastful ceremony of gratuitous back-patting and congratulatory ego-boosting before I gave the university cause for expulsion. :mad5

THAT is the future.

Everyone's aware that the apartment complex has reversed their policy and flags and stickers are okay now, right?

So they caught some heat for it and decided that it didn't make good BUSINESS sense to be so anti-American.

Somehow, I don't see how that justifies tonning down any outrage.....
I say poor on the heat, maybe the message will get through.

I agree with Crapshoot. It is the little shoves and pushes that eventually cause the loss of freedoms. Hate to use an analogy - but it is like the beef packing plants (after being fattened up and treated royally elsewhere) - the pen that the beeves are in moves the gate to drive them into an area where they are forced up the ramp (all done to soothing music so they won't be frightened) - then the next batch arrives. The killin is done behind a curtain so the other beeves don't know what is coming. Occasionally, one or more beeves will balk or climb the gate in an attempt to escape - a few prods later they usually re-enter the stream - those that don't will be let into a side 'holding' pen where someone will attend to them personally later. It is just times like these that one has to just push back...

I think we should go on their actions, rather than their motives... Their first action was wrong and they heard about it. Now, they have reversed their action. Otherwise, isn't it be like the "hate crimes" bill that tries to punish our thoughts... and not just our actions?

My 'guess' would be that they changed their minds because it is illegal to stop someone flying the American flag on their residence! :patriot:

In 2005 President Bush passed the "Freedom to display the American Flag Act" into law. :hurry: :hurry: :hurry: :clapping: :clapping:
