The homeowner did all the right things, including NOT putting the gun down like the dispatcher suggested. He showed remarkable composure under stress. Kudos to this brave man. Good article Andy, thanks.

When I first heard about this story and the dispatcher telling the homeowner to put down the gun, I thought "yeah right bozo," but now that I have read all the details, it's even worse. Reinforcement of rule number one, which is to look out for number one -- the dispatcher was looking out for the deputies, not the homeowner...

Thanks for posting it. There are several "take aways" from this for all of us. As stated already, composure is assuredly one of the main ones. Way to go Jorge!
