The homeowner did all the right things, including NOT putting the gun down like the dispatcher suggested. He showed remarkable composure under stress. Kudos to this brave man. Good article Andy, thanks.

When I first heard about this story and the dispatcher telling the homeowner to put down the gun, I thought "yeah right bozo," but now that I have read all the details, it's even worse. Reinforcement of rule number one, which is to look out for number one -- the dispatcher was looking out for the deputies, not the homeowner...

I love it when people who know nothing about the situation try and tell someone what they should or should not be doing, especially over the phone. Morons.
