Many Highpower shooters use IMR 4895, Hogden 4895, Hogden Varget, or Alliant RL-15. People like H335 in bolt guns, but you said AR-15. There are two suitable Vihtavuori powders but I do not recall their numbers right now - check http://www.vihtavuori-lapua.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; to see.

I used Varget for years, could not get more, switched to Reloder 15 (yes, that's how they mis-spell it), and could not be happier. It meters better than Varget, burns clean, and prints great (better than I can hold).

This is for 52 grain and 69 grain Sierras, and 80 grain Noslers.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Andrew

I've used IMR4895 in the past, but am currently using WW748 & plan to try Varget.

Varget works well but I prefer BL-(C)2 as it fits more in in a case.
My Varget loads are limited by case volume normally.

I believe it is Hogdon H322 that my brother has been using. I get my best groups with those loads. I think Varget is what he normally uses for rifles.

If ease of metering is also a concern BLC2, 2230, 2460 all meter the best that I have found. However, I use Varget and RL15 for my competition loads but have to spend a lot of time metering the large stick powder. I use Varget and RL15 because they are less temperature sensitive since I am loading over the max published load. But, all my 55grain plinking loads are AA2460 with 55gr.
