"MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. (AP) -- Motorists in Mendota Heights might have seen a group of residents picking up trash while packing heat this weekend. About a dozen people spent nearly three hours picking up litter Sunday along a 2-mile stretch of highway. All legally carried guns on their hips. It was the inaugural trash cleanup event for the group that calls itself the Minnesota Carry Permit Holders.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation said the group is legal, and it appreciates their efforts to keep the roadside clean.

The group members met online and decided to get together and do something good for the community.

One member is Jason Walberg, who collected trash with a semiautomatic handgun on his belt. He jokes their adopted highway is the safest stretch of road in the state."

Sounds like we should take a hint...especially if we really mean "Don't Mess With Texas" :txflag:

Problem is open carry is illegal in Texas, so no one would know we were carrying. :headscratch

1) I know there are a lot of opinions regarding whether it's a "problem" or not that we don't have legal open carry of handguns here in TX.
2) I believe open carry of long arms would be allowed in this situation.
3) I don't necessarily think we should all grab our shotguns and ARs and head out to pick up trash with them slung across our backs, though.

Guess I was just excited to see what could *almost* be construed as some positive publicity and semi-responsible reporting as it pertains to folks exercising their RKBA.

I tend to agree with the sentiment of the MN event.

Activists in New Hampshire have been doing this for quite a while now, and other states are picking up on it.

Yup - it's a very smart way to present gun rights activists in a positive, non-threatening light. Also makes it hard for the local PD to harrass them without looking foolish
