We were talking about car jackings and abductions etc. I took her out to her car and showed her the 'escape lever' that is inside the trunk on all newer cars. (told her a smart criminal might break it off) We are going to see if the trunk can still be opened from inside by other means.
I showed her where the tail light/ brake light bulbs are and how to remove them. The 3rd brake light bulb is even accessible from inside the trunk ( that just might get the car pulled over by the police) I showed her where the levers are to release the rear seat backs from inside the trunk.
Now we are going to want to look in everybody's trunk to see whats the same and whats different. You might get stuffed in somebody else's trunk and not your own.
It might be a good thing to show your kids too!

I've always wondered if there were enough light to see what one was doing in that situation. Now, I'm wondering about stashing a small flashlight and maybe little multi-tool in there somewhere. Or even a BUG!

In a situation where you are locked in the trunk you should see of you can get access to any kind of tool (tools for the jack come to mind) and proceed to BREAK the tail light. After all a faulty break light might not be enough to catch the interest of a LEO who has something else on his mind, but a broken tail light with a tool moving around will probably do the trick. With the recent upswing in motorcycle riders you can attempt to beat on the trunk and yell for help should you hear one go by, this works best when they pull up behind or beside you while stopped. You can also make noise and scream for help should you hear people talking or children playing using the logic of "If you can hear them you can make them hear you."

Additionally the tool you use to break the tail light with will make an effective club. A removed bulb can be broken and used as a weapon as well. In a self defense situation anything you can get your hands on can be weaponized if you think about it hard enough.

That's the same thing I thought of.

When I was 12 or 13, the neighbor kid and I would work out scenarios like that. We figured out how to open trunk lids from the inside by sticking our finger or pocket knife into the latch mechanism and would practice by locking each other in the trunk and escaping. This was before the inside trunk releases you find in most cars now.
Our parents would have had a conniption if they'd known.

What's a trunk?

My Dad locked me in the trunk of the car when I was a kid. However, he gave me a flashlight and told me to watch for where water was leaking in around the gasket when he ran the hose on the trunk lid.

We also used to put 2-3 people in the trunk and sneak them into the Drive-In Theater.

I don't think a Drive-In today would provide the excitement of yesteryear; e. g:

* nowadays they do on the screen what we used to try to do in the car,
* opening the door and going around the car to get in the backseat wouldn't be cool

Yessir, I do still enjoy the drive-in. We (my family & I) go to The Showboat Drive-In in Hockley. For $20 we can get in and see two feature films on nice, big screens, and since they broadcast the sound on FM, you can even have the windows up for a bug-free experience.

The only real trick is catching them with two features on the same screen that you are willing to pay for...

I've tried the tricks you talk about but they didn't work on my pickup truck.... what gives?
