The lunatic shooter at Fort Hood reportedly used an FN 57 pistol that he bought legally. The antis call this a "cop killer."

The Bradys and their ilk have demonized this pistol for years:

The English equivalent of 5.7 mm is .224 caliber. This bullet has a whole lot more powder behind it than a .22 LR, , but it is hardly an artillery round. Many common self-defense cartridges (9 mm and .45 ACP) have more muzzle energy.

If this weapon and cartridge disappeared from the face of the earth, the old, reliable sawed-off shotgun would remain far more effective for criminals with no regard for the law.

Yep. The Brady Bunch is all over this incident. Their website already has press releases and statements regarding the FN sidearm used.

Also, they connect the health care debate with firearms - Headline - "GOP Senator Identifies Gun Violence As Major Factor in Health Care Crisis."

Next up..."Gun control can fix the economy, reduce global warming and cure cancer..."

A butter knife could be used as a cop killer if someone wanted to abuse it. Mislabeling things to distort a person's views or beliefs is a mightly low tactic.

I like to tell people my 50 year old Stevens .22 fits part of the definition of assault weapon because it will hold 17 .22 shorts. I usually get an "Oh, really?" because they thought an assault weapon is belt fed and shoots fire.

Call me Pollyanna, but I think the feds have received and read the memo on "gun control."

BTW, the worst "cop killer" is the automobile. Most police officers who lose their lives in the course of duty are killed by automobile collisions. We need to register motor vehicles, license drivers, require insurance, and ban dangerous assault vehicles. Oh, wait...
