Stumbled upon this story the other day. Great anecdote to tell antis when referencing gun-free zones. Obviously, the many gun-free zones that have been the scene of mass killings is the start of the conversation (Columbine & Virginia Tech = schools; Fort Hood = military base; Killeen Luby's = prior to CHL). But then hit 'em with this, what happens to criminals in "gun-plentiful zones".

That's what I always imagined would happen.

That's a classic.
But, but, ... you have to understand, if there wasn't a gun shop to rob, the poor, misguided man would not have tried to rob it. He would have been raising organic lettuce or making hand-thrown pottery.

Yeah, but make sure to read the real encounter, and not the enhanced Darwin Award version. There were not 23 shots on the guy, only 4, and the shop owner/clerk and the cop were the only guys that shot (other than the idiot robber.)
Still, the others were ready if needed.

Two other things to note about this incident:
- The cop had no trouble figuring out who was the bad guy.
- The situation did not turn into a circular firing squad.

Wow. That shocks me...
that the cop was having coffee in the gun shop... and not at the Donut Shop.

The gun shop back in my home town has donuts in the mornings too. Since they have coffee, donuts and firearms, guess that makes it a 'one stop cop shop' !!

I wouldn't consider that failing him, failure would have been letting him think he could get away with that...

From the October nn, 2005 Odessa American in Odessa, Texas:
Police have arrested two suspects in Tuesday’s failed robbery attempt at Gun Sport Ltd.
According to an OPD news release, two men entered the store Tuesday afternoon, and one pepper sprayed an employee.
The employee, whose name was being withheld, managed to keep one of the men from leaving the store by holding a gun on him, according to Sgt. Bob Forbus.
The other man reportedly fled on foot.
On Tuesday, police arrested Jameyl Loud Webb, 19, 2617 San Andres Drive, inside the store and charged him with robbery.
…
The owner of Gun Sport Ltd., Jon Thomas, said he was surprised and pleased at how quickly police arrested suspects in the robbery, but that he felt sorry for them.
“Here’s a young guy, doesn’t look stupid, but he may spend the next 10 years making little rocks out of big ones,” he said.
Thomas said the robbery was the first time in 30 years of owning gun shops that one of his was held up.
“Gun shops, by and large, aren’t targets because we have guns,” he said. “It’s like someone trying to rob a snake farm.”
