I've always been a fan of Mossberg .
My first shotty was a Maverick 88 security model. Inexpensive and deadly reliable .

I own one without that nice finish and mine has a pistol grip. Runs like a champ every time.

that is exactly the one I have had my eye on for a couple of years, but other guns have seemed to jump in the way during that time.... some day..... (I've become a sucker for the stainless look)

I like it too. Why be stealthy when you have that SOUND and then the shiny finish. That should make SOMETHING move...either the BG or his bowels. I'd hope for both!

I've been wanting a good stainless gun in a wood stock and forend. IMO, with a coat of Black Satin Gunkote on the metal, it could maintain the looks of a traditional hunting gun along with serious rust resistance.

If I had it to do over again I might choose the 870 since there are a lot more mods for it - but I got a great deal on this

I was looking at one at Bass Pro a few months ago and the sales guy advised against the stainless mossy especially for Home Defense, because of the way it 'looks'. He said when the jury gets a look at this shotgun ... it's over. Meaning the Home Defender would lose and wind up doing a crab walk to Huntsville. He recommended a Benelli or a Remington 1100. Really? I asked, those being more expensive models wouldn't have anything to do with your recommendation would it? Before I left (without buying) I had a chat with the supervisor. He agreed the sales pitch was inaccurate and said he would counsel his employee.

Wow, I would have started laughing at him and called him an idiot. Doesn't matter if you shot the intruder with a bazooka as long as you didn't hurt anyone else. What an idiot. You should have asked his opinion for a handgun then. He probably would have recommended at least an Ed Brown.

While this guy may have had ulterior motives of trying to up-sell you, you would be surprised at the amount of people who believe these things. They are many times told these fables by a LEO or other person of supposed knowledge or authority who actually believes it themselves, so the person buys into the story and takes it as fact. It is just like the belief that using hopped-up reloads or an FN Five-Seven will automatically tag you of being a blood thirsty gun owner looking to to do nothing but kill someone. Whether owning one of these really paints you in a bad light would be if used it and how it played out in court.

With all the other hassles in a situation like this, do you want to take the risk of the average cop being able to comprehend a form 4? (Or multiple ones - I think the bazooka requires one, plus one for each round...oh, let's not forget the additional paperwork for the destruction of the round itself.)

I thought his sales pitch was kinda (ha,ha) funny at first, but then I realized this joker was trying to make a buck on potentially dangerous information. I didn't like that, and thought I'd try and put a stop to it.
