Palin tells Oprah 2012 run not on radar

In a much anticipated interview with television host Oprah Winfrey that aired Monday, Sarah Palin tamped down speculation that she might run for president in 2012 and took shots at CBS News’ Katie Couric, who conducted a series of interviews with the former Alaska governor in September that seriously damaged Palin’s standing.

Palin’s appearance on Oprah, the first in a media blitz that includes several high profile interviews and an eight-state tour promoting her book, was taped last week and ran just prior to Tuesday’s release of her book “Going Rogue.”

When asked about her plans for 2012, Palin said that a presidential run in two years is “not on my radar screen right now.”

“I am dealing with so many issues that are important to me,” she said. “What I am seeing every day is that you don’t need a title to be important.”

Palin – who resigned as governor of Alaska in June – said that she left office “because I wasn’t going to run for a second term” and that she felt she had already become a “lame duck.”

“My dad’s quote sums it up: ‘She’s not retreating, she’s reloading,’” Palin said of her decision.

I really hope she doesn't decide to run because at this point, she's a laughing stock, and not a person I want as a face of the GOP. I didn't like the decision McCain made - from the get go.

I'm really hoping Tim Pawlenty runs in 2012...

Palin on any ticket would be a give away. She has her fans but she's a guaranteed train wreck.

She sounds like a woman who's trying to become a conservative "personality" or "celebrity" like Rush Limbagh or Glen Beck. I'll bet she has a talk show (probably radio, but I'd prefer TV ) within a year.

I agree that she may not be the most qualified but what the hey...Obama was elected in '08? What were/are his qualifications to be POTUS?

True...I just think that if the GOP is to take back the WH in 2012, it won't / shouldn't be with her. My $0.02...

I totally agree! The Repubs blew the last election...for various reasons. The candidates were just a couple of the reasons. If the GOP is to prevail in 2012, it must listen to the people and come forth with viable programs to address our problems in the good 'ol USA.

A certain amount of Obama's appeal was that he was not BushCheney. In a way BushCheney elected Obama. I think if Bush had not been such an extremist he wouldn't have given away so many votes. Palin also helped , wink, get Obama elected.

And, in my opinion, McCain was the dead weight on the ticket, and does NOT support most of my views. But then again, my opinion is that "moderates", by definition, have no problem in compromising their core values in order to secure votes.

The electoral votes of this republic was Obama's 365 to McCain's 173.
The popular vote, Obama 69,456,897 and McCain 59,934,814

That people were tired of Bush, for various right, wrong, and manufactured reasons, does not make GWB an extremist.

However the man who replaced him, by his ideology, his associates, his incompetence and his actions, is a disaster for the US and world. And face it, his VP is a buffoon. That's pretty extreme. As much as I think McCain in particular was seriously misguided, McCain/Palin could not have wreaked the same amount of havoc that the O has. And face it -- Palin's experience in actually successfully doing something besides running for office far outweighs Obama's.

She is still in the fight, punching back, and I hope she keeps it up. Not prez in 2012, but something. Frankly, she was the conservative/libertarian half of the Republican ticket, and we could do with more of that.

I dont think the GOP could run anyone that would have beat Obama. The media lovefest guaranteed his victory. The chance to elect any black man president was too great to ignore. I dont mean this in a racist way just the current PC trend and desire of libs to show their "colorblindness". You couldnt speak out about his lack of qualifications without literally being called a racist or bigot. Even quoting his own words back seemed to make you a bigot. I personally could care less if a green woman pygmy was running the WH as long as she is qualified and believes in the Constitution.

After seeing that McCain made her pay the cost of the vetting (but only after he lost!), I'm not surprised she quit her job to publish a book. They're not wealthy people.

If she was a train wreck, an albatross, a millstone, it wasn't from her actions or shortcomings. No matter who the GOP nominees were, one or both of them would have been ridiculed and portrayed as mean/incompetent/corrupt (or any other handy stereotype).

I think it's refreshing to find someone who is real, not scripted, and also intelligent and principled. In other words, Palin is pretty much the anti-Obama, with more governing experience to boot.
