I am thankful for:

every day that I wake up.

the opportunity to try to make a difference in our world, for the outstanding people I've gotten to know through my activism and for how this work has reconnected me with my faith.

the amazing woman who has tolerated me for 30 years.

that I have a roof over my head and food in my belly.

that I have enough ammo to go to the range periodically.

that the good Lord allowed me to be born here and made me an American (and a Texan).

the fine men and women who are away from their families keeping me safe.

the glass of wine in front of me that enabled me to share these feelings.

Cheers!

This has been a very bittersweet year for me. I can't recall as much upheaval in my personal life, and yet amid all the change and hard times, I still have everything that matters most to me. (knocking on wood as I type this!)

I'm thankful for that. And in 2 weeks I'll be thankful that I'm done with my bachelor's degree! :anamatedbanana

  • Parents who loved me and provided for me
  • Teachers who kicked my lazy butt into gear
  • My wife who has loved and stood by me for 33 years
  • Freedom and the opportunity do to anything that I want and am capable of
  • A house that has withstood 80 years of storms and floods
  • A full refrigerator
  • Coffee (God was not obligated to give us coffee)
  • The dawn of another beautiful day in Texas
I could go on, but you get the picture. ;-)

I am thankful for a lot of things, some small, and some grand.

Above all else, I am thankful for my Lord Jesus Christ who saves me from myself. He has taught me to live "one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him Forever in the next." Amen.

I am thankful for my wife whom I don't deserve. I married above my station in life. I lover her without reservation or equivocation.

I am thankful for my son, who is maturing into a thoughtful and steadfast man with a heart of pure gold. My life is made better because he is in it.

I am thankful for my friends. They are not great in numbers, but they are great in significance to me. They make me a better man.

I am thankful for my home. It is a better home than I've ever had before in this life; it is my refuge; and peace and tranquility are resident under its roof.

I am grateful for this nation in which I live and in which, despite the fervent opposition of people whose ignorance betrays them, I enjoy freedoms not enjoyed anywhere else on the planet.

And last, but certainly not least, I am grateful for the large bird which went into my smoker at 6:55 this morning, and which will attain absolute smokey perfection later this afternoon. Praise Jesus!

The french have a wonderful little children's rhyme which goes like this:
J'ai bien mangé
J'ai bien bu
J'ai la peau du ventre bien tendue
Merci petit Jesus
It translates as:
I've eaten well
I've drunk well
The skin on my belly is stretched nice and tight
Thank you little Jesus
'Round about 8:00 tonight, as the tryptophan kicks in, that will be my sentiments exactly.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.

Chris

Family-we are a mixed bunch of opinions and ideals but in the end we love each other dearly.
Friends-not a huge number but we all would jump at the chance to help each other.
Freedom-we live in the greatest country EVER!
Food-I have never in my life had to go hungry.

Oh yeah! One more "F" word. Firearms (see freedom)

After the rest of you have done my thinking for me (and mentioned several things I wouldn't have thought of), I can say

ALL OF THE ABOVE

Thanks.
