Lincoln is on such a pedestal that it's hard to discuss him objectively. Too many people get offended when his faults are pointed out.
Thomas DiLorenzo has produced a lot of work on the real history of Lincoln. Here's a piece by Walter Williams about the book:

I may be mistaken, but if talk of secession is forbidden on this forum; talk of revolution will bring about many hoots of derision and other things.
