Why does this not surprise me? Someone please close the bail on the reel before all the string gets stripped-off. :mad5

Obama is actually proposing a federal take-over of mass transit systems (subway & light rail) currently operated by cities, counties and states. Of course, under the guise that the federal gooberment can do a better job of safety oversight and regulating. :banghead: More Gooberment...More More More...

Slow down there. It looks like this refers to federal safety oversight, not "federal takeover." Don't get your panties in a twist.

It's the American federal government. What could possibly go wrong?

Federal oversight of the aviation industry = FAA
Federal oversight of the cross-country rail industry = Amtrak
Federal oversight of worker's safety = OSHA
Federal oversight of environmental protection = EPA
Shall we go on?

Was your question rhetorical, or did you really want an answer?

I thought that was what the FRA did.

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) was created by the Department of Transportation Act of 1966 (49 U.S.C. 103, Section 3(e)(1)). The purpose of FRA is to: promulgate and enforce rail safety regulations; administer railroad assistance programs; conduct research and development in support of improved railroad safety and national rail transportation policy; provide for the rehabilitation of Northeast Corridor rail passenger service; and consolidate government support of rail transportation activities. Today, the FRA is one of ten agencies within the U.S. Department of Transportation concerned with intermodal transportation. It operates through seven divisions under the offices of the Administrator and Deputy Administrator.

Guess what happens when you don't have the right RFID chip or papers when you use their transportation systems?
