Customer fends off would-be robber

A customer wrestled a shotgun away from a man who was trying to rob a Dripping Springs store earlier this evening, according to The Hays County Sheriff’s Office. The gun went off, but no one was injured and the suspect quickly fled, the sheriff’s office said.

The incident happened about 6 p.m. at the DS Grocery at 601 U.S. 290, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

The man came into the convenience/grocery store and was wearing a white mask over his face, which officials said looked like a pillow case. He was holding a shotgun and demanded money from the clerk, the statement said.

A customer in the store grabbed the shotgun when the clerk handed the suspect the money, and the two wrestled for it before the gun went off, striking the ceiling.

The suspect dropped the gun — and the money — when he fled the store. He jumped into a dark colored Honda that another person was driving and they fled east on 290.

No injuries were reported.

Deputies are describing the suspect as an approximately 24-year-old male, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, and was wearing blue jeans and a grey UT sweatshirt.

Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to please contact the Hays County Sheriff’s Office at 393-7896.

Sounds like pure luck for all involved that no one was harmed.
