Got my renewed CHL to day in the mail. Took only 30 days. I expected about 60 or so. Glad to have it.

Congrats Rob...wow...only 30 days .....new applicant?
Be safe and carry well Rob.... Give us the specs on when you submitted ppaperwork to DPS if you would....helps all those in the Waiting Room...
Also, helps Charles keep track of times updates..

This was a renewal. I waited a while after receiving my paperwork from DPS before taking the renewal class. There I was told I'd be without a valid permit for a while after my birthday, since average wait was about 8 weeks. Ouch!
I mailed completed documents in on June 28th and received renewed CHL yesterday, July 27th. Only went without a permit for 8 days. Felt naked.
Now I'm very pleased to get it so quickly.

I also had an 8 day lapse in mine, however I took my class in mid May and it took 57 days for my license to be returned on the 20th of July.

BTW... those 8 days were really long, I was tempted to test the traveling aspect that was passed last year, but I didn't!

We discussed "traveling" in the renewal class. The instuctor was a local LEO who told us that our beloved Harris County (Houston) District Attorney, Chuck Rosenthal, doesn't agree with the new law. Drive locally in Harris County and no CHL, get stopped and found with a gun, you are likely to be charged with an offense.

Since the police don't work for the DA, I wonder why they feel obliged to arrest for "violation of Chuck's opinion".
