I've see a thread or 2 about the CP Event Center here over the past few months. Just wanted to ask if anyone carried there during a non-sporting event. I was there last night for a hockey game, and noticed a sign saying "it's the policy of CP Event Center to prohibit the following items" and listed was "weapons of any kind".

I totally understand the issues around 30.06 posting, and I also understand that we can't carry at a professional sporting event. What I'm wondering about specifically though is has anyone carried and either been searched or otherwise had it discovered that they were carrying? I tend to be on the non-confrontational side relative, and I'm not sure I'd try to carry there if they had any sort of detailed searches or metal detectors. But I am wondering what would happen if you were carrying during a non-sporting even, and asked to leave or otherwise hassled about carrying. Is there any merit in trying to explain that you are allowed to carry and can't legally be prohibited? What if a LEO or security guard or gate person said you can't enter?

There are a few non-sports events coming up there that I'm likely to go to, and I'm frankly unsure if I'll carry or leave it in the car just to avoid any possibility of needing to deal with the issue.

Opening night for George Strait there were no metal detectors, no wands, no problems for any kind for legal CC. Haven't returned since because the seats are too narrow for my rather large posterior.

I went to a Stars game there, saw plenty of Pocket Knives ect. Couldnt carry because its a "Professional Sporting Event" blah blah, Plent of Security and Local and Not So Local Leo's.
I sat next to what appeared to be half the Round Rock PD who were off duty and drinking up a Storm. Wonder if any of them were packing

I assume they got alot of Questions about Carrying at the Stadium, so they posted the sign.

My neighbor has season tickets in the 'club' section, and section 107 has larger seats. 21 inches vs 19 inches I think if you wanted to try to go to a hockey game.....They don't usually sell out, so if you get in with a cheap ticket, just go to section 107 and find a seat.

I few months ago, I attended a TOOL concert with a friend at the Cedar Park Center. I had no intention of carrying into the even, although I am CHL holder. The facility is owned by the city, and the event was a concert, not affiliated with any sporting event. There was no signage, no 30.06, no TABC signage to be seen. As I was being pat down at the door, I overheard someone next to me being told that "chl holders cannot carry firearms into the event". I asked the person patting me down if I had heard correctly, and he told me that "CHL doesnt apply to public events like concert." I laughed and just moved along.

A few minutes later I saw a uniformed security employee. I approached her and kindly asked her who employed the staff conducting the pat-downs. She told me that it was members of the bands security team. This explained their ignorance, but when she asked me why I was asking I told her that they were telling customers that "CHL's didnt apply to public events like a concert." She told me that they were correct, and that it was a building policy. I quickly emplained that I was confused because this is a city-owned building, there is no sporting event taking place, and there are no signs indicating anything regarding TABC or 30.06. She just repeated it was building policy. At that point I had said what I wanted to and didnt want to get into an arguement when a man walked up and introduced himself at the venues head of security. I explained that I wasnt trying to make a fuss, but what we were discussing how door security was denying chl holders entry with a weapon, and that I was confused as to the legitimacy of that stance considering city building, no signs, blah blah. He responded that it was building policy. I told him that as a city owned building, without a sporting event taking place, and no 51% signage, it doesnt work like that, and as head of security he should really look into this issue. He reapeated that it was building policy. He then became flustered and told me I should go to my seat and enjoy the show. Which I did.

I checked with a cedar park police officer on my way out and he assured me that you can carry in the venue, but that they like to record your information for their records.

Sorry if my story drug on, I just wanted to share my experience with the unknowledgeable head of security at the Cedar Park Center. What do yall think?

Mass ignorance can be tough to fight. It seems like large venues like that can operate like the City of Hazzard where some one like Roscoe Coletrain sort of "makes up" their own laws/policies and trying to find someone of any authority to make a difference can be difficult.

Just wanted to provide valuable information to all CHL HOLDERS. I went to the cedar park center last night and noticed that there are signs posted : both 30.06 and 30.07. Rather or not the signs are legal. You will also be going through a metal detector and wand. Good luck!

I was there last night, walked past the metal detector and challenged the legality of the signs... Challenged, being pointed out that the signs are "not allowed" on a "city owned" building to employees who I'm sure had nothing to do with the decision.

What they told me was that the building had been "sold" to HEB and was about to be private property. They sounded like they knew exactly why I was asking. Because I didn't know any better, I left it at that..

I looked it up, the naming rights were sold, not the building...

This was a non-alcohol event.

You really should follow up with the City Attorney and AG if you have time.

I'll see if I can get some photos. I know that people have informed the city and that the AG already has at least one other documented complaint.

Wow. I started this thread 6 years ago. I'm an old timer....Unfortunate in a way we're still talking about it.

For me, it's most definitely an issue going there. I've seen over the years signs show up, then metal detectors. I go there for a few hockey games a year, a gun show once in a while, the circus, and a concert once in a while. I stopped carrying there (for non-prohibited events) when the metal detectors went up. Not worth the argument.
