Coded references to New Testament Bible passages about Jesus Christ are inscribed on high-powered rifle sights provided to the United States military by a Michigan company, an ABC News investigation has found.

At the end of the serial number on Trijicon's ACOG gun sight, you can read "JN8:12", a reference to the New Testament book of John, Chapter 8, Verse 12, which reads: "Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." The ACOG is widely used by the U.S. military.

The sights are used by U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and in the training of Iraqi and Afghan soldiers. The maker of the sights, Trijicon, has a $660 million multi-year contract to provide up to 800,000 sights to the Marine Corps, and additional contracts to provide sights to the U.S. Army.

U.S. military rules specifically prohibit the proselytizing of any religion in Iraq or Afghanistan and were drawn up in order to prevent criticism that the U.S. was embarked on a religious "Crusade" in its war against al Qaeda and Iraqi insurgents.

Assuming that the U.S. is in a war and further assuming that the intent of the war is to vanquish an enemy, shouldn't our concerns be focused on killing the enemy rather than wondering about his/her hurt feelings?

Am I just too old to dig it or what? I think I'm going to be sick...some more.

Bush didnt Make,Buy, or Ask for these scopes, it was the Scope makers idea.
I bet Bush or anyone in the Whitehouse didnt know about this

Personally, I don't see what's the big deal. I'll bet that most users of these products had no idea about this. I know I certainly didn't. And for sure none of the Iraqis or Afghans who were being trained on these scopes knew about it; and neither did Al-Qaeda or the Taliban.

But now, thanks to the idiots who are making the fuss, everybody knows. Now the Taliban will raise the issue and make trouble for native troops being trained. Now native troops will begin to object to using the equipment. Now Al-Qaeda and Taliban operatives will go koo-koo over being shot at by "Jesus rifles."

Thank you Michael "Mikey" Weinstein and ABC news for creating a problem where there wasn't one before. A classic example of "making news" when you're having a slow day.

California based hamburger chain In 'N Out Burger puts the same things on all their drink containers, and for largely the same reason. The family that started and owns the business are Christians, and that is what they do. Nobody cares. Please, don't anybody tell Michael "Mikey" Weinstein and ABC News about it, or we're going to start hearing about the separation of church and fries.

I am sure Muslim US Soldiers will object, and quick work of a dremel will fix the problem.

I see alot of Scopes getting Dremmled in the near future.

I didn't know this. I LOVE In 'N Out Burgers. Anyone of you fellow Native Texans who hasn't at least been as far west as Arizona to try one of these doesn't know what you're missing. I like Whataburger and all. But nothing and I mean NOTHING beats an In 'N Out burger. Best fast food hamburger. Ever. Period.

OK, now back to your regularly scheduled thread topic. While I drool some more thinking about a double double with cheese and grilled onions

If they need to get rid of the supposed bad scopes I will take one off of there hands

I will use a dremel on some and declare them as unfit for service. Then, I will dispose them to my recreational use.

Why does anyone care?
Does a battle sight with a "secret Jesus code" somehow work less well than one without?
