Teen just wanted to kill, police say

Frisco youth admits serial-killer fascination; original suspect cleared

09:30 AM CDT on Wednesday, August 2, 2006

By TIARA M. ELLIS and LINDA STEWART BALL / The Dallas Morning News

A 16-year-old Frisco youth who was fascinated with serial killers and had access to a stolen gun [emphasis mine] went looking for someone to shoot Saturday night – anyone would do, Frisco police said Tuesday.

He wound up with two victims: One of them, Bryan Chevalier, 14, of Frisco, lay in a Dallas hospital bed Tuesday after he was shot in the chest and side while answering the door of his Frisco home last week. He is recovering from the surgery that removed those bullets.

The other victim is a 15-year-old Frisco boy who was falsely accused of the crime and wrongly held in detention. Charges against the boy, one of Bryan's close friends, were dropped.

Shows the danger in relying on eyewitnesses for identification.

Russ,

I used to be naive and wonder how someones heart could be so dark, to want to do something like this.

Then I went out and read the Death Row convictions at the TDJC website.

Truly, there is no limit to how deep that darkness can be in someone.

I suspect digging into this kid's homelife would be quite revealing.

Yes, evil is a lot blacker than anyone of us realize, or ever could realize, I'm sure. Hopefully none of us will find out just how dark that blackness can be.

They didn't even have that.
They had the victim as witness, repeatedly saying it was his friend (the falsely arrested boy) who shot him.

But no, there was no 3rd party witness.

Bryan's parents said bad lighting, a recent argument with his buddyand the trauma of being shot could have contributed to wrongly naming his friend.

"We acted on good faith, based on the victim naming him specifically as the shooter," Sgt. McFarlin said. "Even last night, when we were dealing with the second suspect, the victim as late as 9 p.m. was still naming his friend."

My sister doesn't live to far from Frisco. I printed out the article for when the subject comes up.
