2010 primary early voting is over

Early voting in the 2010 primary starts today and ends February 26.

This primary will select candidates for governor, other statewide offices, U.S. representative, state representative, half the state senator positions, county officials, and judges.

Some county parties also have ballot resolutions, which are presented to the state convention but have no legal force.

Some factoids:
  • You can find early voting locations in your local newspaper or by searching the web for <your county> clerk early voting. If your county clerk is up to speed, that will get you to a site like this: http://www.galvestonvotes.org/March_02_ ... voting.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
  • In most counties, you can vote at any early voting location.
  • If you haven't already registered, it's too late. Register for the November election while you're thinking about it.
  • If you have lost your registration card, you can use a photo ID to vote.
  • You can vote in either the Republican or Democratic primary, regardless of how you voted in previous elections.
  • It is illegal to carry a weapon in a primary voting location or polling place on election day. [PC 46.03(a)(2)]
Primary turnout is usually light, and even more so when the weather is bad. Your primary vote has more weight than most votes that you will cast.

I prefer to wait. Too much can happen between now and the primary.

I will again wait until election day. My wife is our local election judge and I normally go with her before sun-up to get the computers and tables set up, the signs set up outside, then I get in line early. Then at 7:00 p.m., do it all in reverse, load up all the "gear", and haul it to the courthouse.

Also, don't forget that March 2nd is Texas Independence Day! What better way to celebrate than to exercise your right to vote. :txflag:

Congratulations. :thumbs2:

I've said many times that the primary is often the only real election. No Democrat has won statewide office in Texas for at least ten years, so the winner of the Republican primary is almost guaranteed the seat.

The same goes for representatives and county officials. There are districts where either a Democrat or Republican has a built-in advantage, regardless of who the candidates actually are.
