Have some friends looking to put together a machine gun shoot.Something like this takes alot of preplanning and logistical work,so it will be 3-4 months down the road.Anyone know of a place within an hour drive of Houston for this ??Will be willing to rent if the price is reasonable..

Impactzone west of Houston (Brookshire) looks like it is Class 3 friendly, and is not too far from Houston. Try http://www.theimpactzone.us/ It looks like a little bit of a drive from where you are, and I have no idea if they welcome visitors or what you have to do to step foot on the property. I'm not into the Class 3 scene, so maybe someone else knows of such a place that is closer.

just call Phil at IZ, tell him what you want to do and he will most likely say yes.

last time i was out there, there was a guy with an M60, several M16, some chinese full autos, and even an M79.

and BTW they are called NFA weapons... not "class III".

All depends on who you talk to. I've seen NFA dealers advertise themselves as C3.

They are most commonly refered to as Class III ,which actually is the type of stamp a FFL dealer needs to sell NFA items..Kind like calling an adjustable wrench a cresent wrench..People familiar with tools will know what your talking about..Same with gun people

i know what you mean by "class III", and so does most everyone else. but i'm a perfectionist who doesnt know how to keep his mouth shut , hence the reason for the original comment.

just to straiten this out...

there is no such thing as a "class III FFL". there is a Type 03 FFL (C&R), but it has nothing to do with NFA weapons. the FFL license needed to sell NFA weapons is a Type 01. on the ATF's website, NFA weapons are covered under the description of the Type 01 FFL. here is a link to the ATF's website - http://www.atf.gov/firearms/nlc/ffl/ffl_types.htm

the "class III" acctually refers to a Class III SOT tax stamp, which is what you pay the $200 for, so NFA items are commonly known as Class III.

i dont care which you choose to call it; i'm just a perfectionist who cant keep his mouth shut... so i have to solicit the right information.

o and sory for hijacking your thread... and call Phil.

Interesting...something doesnt sound right here..
http://www.gunlawnews.org/NFA-34.html

NFA Terminology
Title 1 firearms are not NFA firearms.
Title 2 firearms are NFA firearms.
The BATFE define classes of 'Special Occupational Tax' (SOT) as delineated by TITLE 26 > Subtitle E > CHAPTER 53 > Subchapter A > PART I > § 5801.

Class 1 SOT allows one to import NFA items
Class 2 SOT allows one to manufacture NFA items
Class 3 SOT allows one to deal (buy/sell) NFA items

I have a rifle that uses clips, two of them as a matter of fact, and one is NOT a Garand.

I've got a Steyr-Mannlicher M95/34, in 8x56R. Recoil is "memorable".
