Is this even possible? I shot a buddy of mines 1911 and fell in love. I'm thinking of trading in the XD subcompact for a Springfield GI 1911 but do shops even do trade ins? Is it even worth it? Guide me my brethren.

Yes, there are places that will handle a trade.
But you need to supply your home area so that the proper
forum neighbors of yours can guide you to someplace nearby.
A certain member here of the Tomball, TX persuasion completed
a deal for a new XD SC40 by trading in his Taurus PT-145.
If you are near Tomball, he could fix you up.
By the way I may be in the market for your gun. Is it 9MM or .40?
How much would you want for an outright sale of the gun, and what
accessories does it have (mags, holster, etc.)?

I am going to try to talk you out of that trade. 1911s are nice, but I wouldn't trade my XD SC 9 in for one. It's going to be harder to use the 1911 as your CCW. the XD will conceal much more easily.
I don't know why you want to ditch your XD, but I would highly recommend against it.

You need one of each.
You won't be happy till you get a 1911 or two, and will never get rid of it. But.....sweaty hot summers, you will enjoy the easy upkeep and cleaning the XDsc.

I have to respectfully disagree. Of all the real guns (a/k/a not 380, 32, 25, etc.)

, the 1911 in any barrel length is the easiest handgun to conceal. It's thin and if the grip length is an issue because of your size, then the shorter guns like the Kimber Ultra Carry, Colt Defender, or Springfield Ultra Compact may work better.

Agree w/ the above on the 1911. Easy to conceal.
Especially w/ a IWB holster.
Hope you find a trade. You will definately be trading up.
My .02 cents & some think it worth about half that.

I have a SA XD 9mm SC and a SA 1911 Compact LW and love 'em both. The 1911 is my preferred CCW for the aforestated reasons.
Oh, yes there are dealers/gun stores who will trade you. Good luck.

I would try to sell it here or elsewhere for a fair price, before trading it in.

I totally agree. The amount the dealer will give you for the XD will probably be between 25%-33% of what you paid for it. Possibly half. My vote is to give a fellow forum member an opportunity to buy it, and then go buy that 1911.
(after all, it
is a real gun(a/k/a not 380, 32, 25, etc.), according to one forum member who hangs out here.)

Wish I had a beer and some popcorn to watch the tussle
Glad it's an XD and not us Glock guys getting pummeled today
By the way, to the OP, don't trade in your XD, it's like trading in a car, you'll get way less than market value. Take it to a gun show, or sell it here or TexasGunTrader.com or GunBroker.com and you'll get more $$ for it. Heck, I'll give you $100 for it right now sight unseen
But seriously, try selling it yourself first.
Edited to add: Charles beat me to it, darn lawyers

I agree with the others who say to sell, not trade in.
With a few more posts under your belt you could sell it here on the forum.
You could list it very close to retail and it would still be a good deal because of the tax savings.
BTW, austinrealtor offered you $100. I'll give you $110.

...Let the bidding begin!

I'll bid $112.50. Now what are we bidding on again?
