Just a quick question,

I moved out away from Texas to a "may issue" state (don't ask why).

How do I go about changing the address on my Texas License and converting it to a Non-resident CHL?

I can't carry in my new state right now (non-reciprocal with Texas), but I am working on getting a license here. I still want my Texas license for when I travel (most of the areas I travel to honor a non-resident State Texas License).

Anyone have any insight?

As long as your Texas CHL is still current, just go to the DPS website and under the CHL section click "Change Address". You can do it all online and they'll ship it to you. I believe the charge is $25.

KFP---I tried that, but that system won't allow you to change your address to an out of state address.

I just called DPS, and they said that I have to get my new plastic Driver License from my new state of residence. I then fill out the Form CHL-70 off of the DPS website, and mail in a color copy (front & back) of my new state driver license along with the $25 fee.

Sometimes there are circumstances where a move like this can make sense...or situations where a company may force you to move or lose your job. At that point, I'm sticking with providing for my family...

Good to know - thank you for the follow up. I had changed my address (obviously within Texas) and didn't have issues online, so I assumed that the process would be the same.

I've done that before...got laid off in the dot-com crash around 2002, moved to Oklahoma for a job, got laid off there after only TWO MONTHS, and subsequently moved to Kansas, and was stuck in Kansas for over five years before we FINALLY moved back to Texas in 2008.

I can definitely say that living in other states gave me a better appreciation for Texas. If I ever lose my job here, I plan to do EVERYTHING in my power to stay in Texas.

Just my two cent's worth of course...everybody's situation is different.
