In an article in the Beaumont Enterprise this morning, there's a discussion about open and concealed carry in businesses after last week's Starbucks publicity.
Mary Richard of Richard's Cafe in Beaumont is taking a stance that should cost her business, and we all need to let her know that it's going to cost her business.
To quote the newspaper:
Mary Richard, owner of Richard's Cafe in the 1000 block of Magnolia isn't worried about offending either side of the debate. Since her business holds a license to serve mixed drinks, patrons are not permitted to bring handguns inside, whether or not they have concealed carry permits. But even if her business was permitted to allow customers with handguns inside Richard said she'd want no part of it. "I don't want them there", she said "Anytime you have people mixed with alcohol, a weapon is trouble".
That's fine. I'll oblige her by keeping my money and using it elsewhere. I'm also going to fax a copy of every receipt from our business lunches to her attention just to show her how much money she's losing by taking that stance, and will do so until she decides to publically recant that statement.

I know that, and highly doubt that they're 51%, but it clearly shows the ignorance and bias against us all by the newspaper and the business.

Richard's Cafe in Beaumont has a Food and Beverage license, so there is no way they are a 51% location.

If this is someplace you frequent, I would DEFINITELY let he know how you feel and how much revenue she will be losing.

jlangton -- I wasn't addressing you specifically. I see you've had a CHL for a while. But I didn't want others to read that newspaper quote and get confused.

your idea about sending them your receipts is a great one! Let them know how much business they are losing and why. I understand what she is saying when she says that guns and alcohol dont mix but it is illegal for a CHLer to be drunk and carry. She can say whatever she wants but those that carry illegaly will continue to do so and will continue to drink and carry. So she really is not doin anything but losing good CHL business.

Richard's food is great! Their location is the pits. There are lots of transients, crack heads, gangbangers, all up and down Magnolia Ave. That is a part of Beaumont I won't go into unless packing and won't go into at all at night without a police escort. Sorry Mary, the food isn't good enough to die for.

Mmmmm......... She nor the writer indicated they had any concern about her patrons leaving and getting into the most dangerous weapon in America (automobiles) and entering the most dangerous environment (public roadways) and having mixed in a little alcohol.

Also the signs shown in the Beaumont Enterprise were not valid 30.06 signs.

Starbucks publicly said last week it will allow handguns in its stores if local or state law allow it.

Texas concealed carry handgun law has several exceptions. Any business can ban handguns by posting a note at its entrance. Also, in general, no weapons are permitted where alcohol is served nor in schools or churches.

Richard's was posted? Original quote indicated just because they sold drinks made any carry illegal. Why post if they believed that?

There were no links to the original article, so I haven't seen it. Based on the original post here, nothing was mentioned about the place being posted. And it appeared they believed that just because they sold alcoholic drinks, all carry was forbidden. It just seemed a little weird that they would attempt to 30.06 post if they believed all carry there was illegal anyway.
