Our agency worked two bike crashes today. Both involved a motorcycle striking another vehicle.

The one I worked was a fatality...19 yo kid lost his life. I'm still processing it all...but I thought I would encourage you guys to PLEASE be safe. I know those things are fun, but slow down, people can't see you and will pull out in front of you.

Still shock up, so this is an outlet if you will.

Bikes have neither roll-bars, nor airbags. The only thing between the rider and the road is what s/he is wearing. May God give comfort to the family of the 19-yr old, and to those involved in the accident and it's aftermath.

ATGATT. All The Gear, All The Time. Or as one instructor put it, "Cover the skin you want to keep." And ride like you're invisible, with everyone wanting your patch of road. Like firearm safety, it can't be over-emphasized. Riding is fun. Dying isn't.

If you ride bikes, the MSF Safety Course will save your life. Yes, even if you're an experienced rider, you need to take a course, and retake it. I take the ERC every 2 years to keep my skills sharp.

My brother in law lost it on a sport bike a few years ago.

The police presumed he was dead until he started moaning.
He spent several days unconscious in the ICU. When he finally woke, we told him that
his gender reassignment surgery was a success ...Just teasing him.

Anyway, he spent over a year recovering from multiple broken bones and very deep wounds.

Today he walks with a limp and is missing certain parts that he was born with...You'd cringe if I told
you which ones.

That goes double if your bike has a 49cc motor or no motor.

It's a good message no matter what time of the year it is.

Parked my 1984 Goldwing 22 April 2009. Was riding to work one morning and a dually truck came on over with me in the way. 70 miles an hours throwing sparks off my engine protectors on the concrete divider. Fun stuff. Haven't been on it since. I really should at least tune it up.

Had a guy "not see me" and almost run me off the road changing lanes. I kicked the door and he "woke up".

Been there, done that a few times. Once with a tanker truck next to me and another time with the concrete barrier. Both of those times I was right next to the driver's window, so the door that got kicked was the driver's door and that was after neither waving nor the horn got their attention. Another guy in a pick-up came out of the HOV lane on my left and I tapped on his passenger window. Scared the begeebber's out of the driver and passenger. To my wife's disappointment, I'm getting close to hanging up the leathers. She loves riding, even after hitting the pavement once, but I'm finding other things I like much more than the stress of riding around all the cages.

I was riding down 35 one day in the center lane traveling about 60 mph. or so. The left lane traffic suddenly stopped up ahead. The car immediately to my left failed to notice the traffic ahead of him had stopped. He was right beside me when he rear ended the stopped car ahead of him. Mangled car parts flew all around me. I have no idea how they all missed me as I was only about 4 feet from the collision. I sold my bike not long after that.

gigag04...Thank you for your service and all you do. I hope you were able to find some peace after this incident.

That was my decision last April. Sure miss it though. Maybe out in the Hill Country but not in town again.

I parked my sport bike too. Crazy cagers. Now I'm thinking about selling it and getting a dual sport or ATV.
