Question for the Anglers

I've always been a Shakespeare Rod and Reel Combo guy (read: cheap). I'm looking to get a better rig finally but am not sure on some of the best brands for rods and reels (spinning reels, though I am open to a baitcaster). It will be for fishing the flats...

I'm not looking for $$$ custom rigs...more of what can be found at a local Academy.

Thanks!

Since no replies here ....
I'm pretty much freshwater only, I like Spirex 4000FG, freshwater reels, but, couldn't tell you about fishing the salty flats, ask over at the Saltwater, or BTB or New to fishing sections of http://www.texaskayakfisherman.com/forum/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; they'll advise you better. Several members there are now members here too :cheers2:

Thanks RPB! I, too, am a freshwater guy. I've always fished Lake Superior and it's tributaries in MN. When I got down to TX, I never got in to fishing down here until about a year ago and the differences are resounding. I feel like I am learning it all over again.

I wound up going with a Daiwa setup and I'll get her all rigged up before my PINS trip. It's going to be a bit strange surf fishing, where I am no longer at the top of the food chain. :smilelol5:

Daiwa will work for you. Your rig and bait/lure depend entirely on what you're fishing for....
Try either of these sites:

http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Nice folks and willing to help you out.
Good luck.
