Stay somewhere in McKinney, Plano or North Dallas. Don't stay anywhere south of I-635.

Don't venture too far west of 75. Whatever you do, avoid places like Coppell, Carrollton or Farmers Branch.

I'd even venture to say not to stay south of the George Bush Turnpike....there are lots of nice places in Allen, and as a matter of fact a brand new Marriott just opened up on the SE corner of Hwy 75 and Stacy Rd on the Allen/Fairview border.
Here is thier address and phone number. It's brand new within the last two months or so. Also, this hotel is near alot of shopping and resturants.

If you are coming down 75, you won't be anywhere close to Carrollton. Carrollton isn't really that bad, but we do like to keep the riff raff out of Coppell.

I don't think we even have any motels or hotels in Coppell.

And you might want to line up a good body shop/auto glass outfit for when you get back home. I've heard that more than 50% of vehicles traveling through Dallas get shot at and get bullet holes in the sheet metal and/or glass broken out. And take some duct tape so you can seal up that busted out window once you make it through Dallas (assuming, that is, that you make it through alive).

A business associate stayed there a couple of weeks ago. He was fine. His car was broken into but they didn't get much.

I am guessing from your posts you have never been to Dallas, as it is not that bad in most areas. This location mentioned above is fine. I live about 3 miles from there and it is one of the best locations you can get.
There is a higher chance of smash and grab break-ins along 75 or any major thoroughfare as they can quickly pull in, bust a window, grab what they want, and then quickly hit the highway again. However, if you park in a well lighted lot and don't leave anything out where it can be seen inside the vehicle. Take down GPS or radar detector holders as it indicates you may have one hidden in the console or glove box. Also don't leave a towel or blanket in the passenger compartment as it looks like you may be covering something up to keep it from being seen. If a thief doesn't see something that entices them to break into a car, they will move on to easier pickin's.
Have a safe trip!
