The "ACLU" is just an umbrella organization. All the work is done by the various state groups. They are completely autonomous, and vary wildly from state to state in what they're willing to support.

:cheers2:

Its amazing is it? The Aclu gets a bad rap because it does silly things like PROTECT YOUR RIGHTS. They as a whole have a poor 2nd record, but thats why we have the NRA now isnt it?

Channel 11 had 2 gun stories on last night. I couldn't believe it. The one above about the empty holster protest and one about "security" in church. After some comments on here about having a "security" detail at church couldn't/shouldn't be done due to state regulations.

interesting... i never would have thought that would be an issue. when I go to school, i always leave the kimber in the truck and leave my holster in place. It never crossed my mind it would be an issue.

Quite. Perhaps I'm in a "glass half empty" mood, but another way of looking at this is that the college administration successfully conned the students into wasting three years worth of effort and funds on a side issue rather than the main focus of their campaign.

Still, I'm sure lots of lawyers got paid, so at least some good came out of it. ;-)

All the lawyers on the ACLU side donated their time. They did request for lawyers fee after we won the case, but they took it knowing that it would likely be pro bono work. The reason this case was so important is that we needed legal precedent that Empty Holster Protests are protected speech. While TCC was the only college in the country that was doing this, it would have likely spread if gone unchecked. It also brought us a lot of positive media attention and illustrated how College administrators are more than willing to trample on student rights, be it free speech or self defense.

I go to this school. I am thinking about open carrying my holster on campus tomorrow while I am in class.

This isn't an accurate statement.

When you organize and assume the role of protecting others, you step outside the privileges of a CHL, whether for a church or any other organization. Setting up a church security team can and should be done, but there are state regulations that folks should be aware of that will take time, effort, and money to comply with.

I also go to this school NE & NW campus did not go to class tonight but we did have a discussion prior to class Monday and I believe my teacher has CHL he did not come out and say he did but his knowledge of things left me thinking he did or at least supports it.
