got my info back today and will be taking the 28hr class in June, however not sure about using a revolver as the info does not say anything about the number of rounds or distance. I have a SW 642 airweight as a bug but I can not hit the side of a barn. Maybe I should look for a 12" in a 38sp.

It only took a few week to process!!

The shooting test for revolver and semi-auto are exactly the same. They will do one and then the other, as a group...or series of groups depending on class size. Same shooting test as when you got your CHL except you have to score 90%. Also, depending on when you last shot for your CHL, remember you now shoot the B-27 full size target. Sounds like a you might consider a little practice with you Airweight or borrow another revolver.

Honestly I do not remember the CHL shooting portion. I assume you mean out of 50 rounds 25 will be with the Revolver with a max of 10 points a round on the b-27 target. I think at 3 & 7 I am ok but the little snubby just does not cut it at 15y. Thanks for the info

The requirements are: 50 rounds with revolver; 20 at 3 yards, 20 at 7 yards and 10 at 15 yards.
Then 50 rounds with semi-auto; 20 at 3 yards, 20 at 7 yards and 10 at 15 yards.
You will have to qualify with BOTH semi-auto and revolver. You must qualify with a score of at least 90% or 225 points to pass.

Papacub is correct. Scorint 90% is required to pass on each, with revolver and semi-auto.

You will shoot 100 rounds. Take 200 rounds incase you require a reshoot. It must be factory ammunition. They will provide you with a list of approved manufacturers.

Thanks guys, now I need to find a revolver, I just cant see shooting the 642 past 10-15ft, and I sure in heck will not practice with than demon. Last time I shot 50 round I needed my finger reattached

Hi Bill

Good used revolvers may be the best deal in handguns. So many folks and agencies have converted to semi-autos that there is a good supply on quality used revolvers now and the demand is not excessive.

Ruger has made quality revolvers for many years and some like my 30+ year old Security-Six 4" are really sweet shooting weapons.

Old Smith and Wessons, Colts are available for under $300. Many are police trade-ins. Some of them may not be pretty because they were carried as duty weapons, but the actions can be smooth as glass. There are lots of snub-nose guns but 4" models will serve your well in the shooting test.

Check you local sources, but also check places like gunbroker.com, gunsamerica.com , auctionarms.com and other online sources.

I picked up a great Taurus Tracker 357 4" from Gunbroker for $370. I had to move the sights up about 8 clicks and it's right on. Smooth trigger on double action, great shooter and in great shape.
