I am correct that you can not CC on Post office property, not even in the parking lot? Is this right?
We were on the way home from dinner and the wife wanted stamps and suggested going to the PO to get them, I had to inform her that I could not go there because I was carrying. Not a good thing to tell her, she is not a huge fan of me CC to begin with.

I believe you can drop her off and she can get the stamps. Just don't exit the car with your ccw on you jus leave it in the car.

Next time, tell her you will pay the $0.08 upcharge at your local ATM and skip the Post office, or print the postage from online.

Park on the street. Either let her go in, you wait in the car, or disarm and you go get the stamps.

There are many who believe the Federal law applies equally to the building and the parking lot.

Cedar Park or Leander post office? if Cedar Park, you can just park in that bank parking lot next door and walk on a semi-paved sidewalk to the PO property.

There are many long threads on post office carry that you may look up on this site, but after doing a lot of research and reading the applicable federal law, court cases and code of federal regulations (CFR), I came to the following conclusion. I posted some time back, but I didn't dig out the link.

The CFR and Postal regulations seem to prohibit possession anywhere on postal property, however the penalty is the (federal) equivalent of low grade misdemeanor $50 fine and up to 30 days in jail. Kind of the federal equivalent of a class c traffic ticket in Texas.

OR if you believe the federal law quoted on the postal service signs controls, then this law only applies to buildings and only when they are posted (in accordance with the federal statute). The you face (generally) up to a year in jail and a much larger fine. However, this law doesn't appear to be the enabling statute for the CFR mentioned above.

So personally, I leave my gun in the car, but park in the Postal lot.

Like a lot of wives feel, it makes more sense to just get raped than to have that evil gun around.. Phil Donahue said that the gun is 5 times more likely to shoot one of you than a rapist. Besides, the cops are right there.

it is my understanding that if the post office is located in like a strip mall, shopping center that the parking lot is NOT post office property so leaving your weapon in your car there is okay but never carry inside post office. If post office has a dedicated parking lot, no other business that you can do into other than post office if you park there, then it is illegal to even leave weapon in your car. Park across the street.

I only buy stamps at the ATM, and I always hope they're the "Forever" stamps (and they usually are). I send so few things by mail that I forget how much postage is. And, the USPS does such a terrible job of indicating how much First Class stamps actually cost (the whole "letter stamp" or undenominated "first class" nonsense), that I don't want to deal with them at all.

That said, I do sometimes have to visit the PO. I don't fret the parking lot in the least, especially when I'm only pulling through to drop mail in the drive-through outgoing box.

Yeah, that's my point. it's STUPID.
