In Cooperstown, New York, yesterday, a 16-year-old male allegedly armed with a .22 rifle ran after a group of teenagers in a park. One of the teenagers ran into a police station. The armed male shot the other teen and himself before being subdued by the lone police officer in the station.
No motive is known. The two teens attended the same high school. School officials said they knew of no disciplinary problems.

The shooter is in serious condition. The teen that he shot was treated and released."If [the officer] had been out on patrol, this might have ended very differently," [a police spokesperson] said.
The small-town department has six full-time officers, and the station is often empty during the day. [He] had only been in the building to fill out some paperwork.
