The PIN is used to check your status online during processing. It's also needed to change your address online after you have your plastic. I don't know why it's required to change a CHL address online when DPS doesn't require a PIN to change a drivers license address online. I also don't know why a CHL address change costs $25 when a drivers license is only $10, especially if the rumor is true and they're printed on the same machine. Anyway, that's what a PIN does.

Fire1141, when did you apply? Did you send it registered mail, so you know when they "received" your application?
From many other recent posts, if there are no issues with the application or documents, its taking 21+ days (the DPS says it could take up to 60 days however).

Once you get your pin, you will find yourself, if you are like the rest of us, checking the status daily. Don't get too discouraged, the status doesn't change often. (yes, I am one that is still waiting as well)

As far as

Using your PIN to check your status exacerbates that.

Fortunately DPS seems to be processing A LOT faster than a year or two ago.

Fire1141 , All of the above is true.

I will also add that you will automatically receive your PIN in the mail
once DPS receives and begins to process your application.

or, you can request your PIN via e-mail, but give it a couple
of weeks before doing that.

Fire1141, first off welcome to the forum! Glad to have you with us! :tiphat:

As the others have said, you'll need the PIN to check your status online once you receive it. And be aware checking multiple times per day is quite fun......and addictive!

And don't worry about asking questions. We are here to help you on your journey, and all of us always learn when a question is asked.

What part of this great State do you hail from? :txflag:

Thanks everyone. I took my class yesterday and completed all the documents today. Will mail certified tomorrow. And when I get my pin, I WILL check status all day every day. I can't wait! By the way, I am from the sprawling metropolis of rosharon
