If a building is not posted and the IRS rents space in the building. Can you carry in the building? Or is just the IRS office off limits.

If the building is not a federally owned or totally leased by the federal government, and there is no 30.06 sign, unless there is another reason for the building to be prohibited then the portion of the building that houses the IRS is the only restricted place IMO.

Bringing this back up since it came up in my friend the "Search".

The IRS office is one office on the 7th floor. As I entered, I took a number to wait my turn. When I sat, there was a sign posting Federal Code 18 USC § 930, and how having a CHL didn't exempt me. I found this on another site that helped me. Don't like it, but it's the rules.

Where TITLE 18 > PART I > CHAPTER 44 > § 930 subseciton (a) says:
Except as provided in subsection (d), whoever knowingly possesses or causes to be present a firearm or other dangerous weapon in a Federal facility (other than a Federal court facility), or attempts to do so, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 1 year, or both.
There is an exemption in =(d) Subsection (a)
shall not apply to—
(3) the lawful carrying of firearms or other dangerous weapons in a Federal facility incident to hunting or other lawful purposes.
And a clarification of the term, "Federal facility":
(g) As used in this section:
(1) The term “Federal facility” means a building or part thereof owned or leased by the Federal Government, where Federal employees are regularly present for the purpose of performing their official duties.

So if they only lease a part of the building, that is the only portion that is off limits. IMHO, IANAL, etc, etc.

Unless the rest of the building is owned by the Federal Government or properly posted with a 30.06 you can carry in it. Just not the area 'leased' by the Fed's.
