Oklahoma

A friend in my mom's group is moving to OKC. She and I had been planning to go to the gun range within the next few months since our babies are getting older and we can leave them with the daddies for a few hours while we go shoot.
She was wanting to get her CHL this summer, but recently found out that she will be moving.

Would it be better for her to simply wait until she moves to Oklahoma to get her license? Wouldn't it be less expensive there anyway? Also, OK & TX have reciprocity, right? She will be traveling back to the Houston area frequently to visit family.

I would wait to get to the state so she can get a resident license. Having a resident license of the state you live in is usually better IMO. They do have reciprocity with Texas, so she would be able to carry here.

OK has two licenses available, a 5 year for $100 or a 10 year for $200, so they are a little cheaper. That does not include the cost of the class, but would think that would be comparable.

The only thing I am not sure about is if they have a minimum length of residency before you can apply. I can't find anything stating you have to live there for a certain length of time first, but that doesn't mean it isn't a requirement.

Yes Texas & Oklahoma have reciprocity. And I'd think since she's moving in only a few months, it would be of more benefit for her to get an OK CHL.

I might have a few around the office, but most have the same problem.

thanks for the responses. She may not be moving; we'll see.
She has a contract on her house, but her dh has another job offer here. If his current employer can't top it, they're going to stay. YAY!

Either way, we're still getting the daddies to watch the babies while we head to the range on a Saturday.
