Imagine if there was no withholding during the year and we had to write a check for all of it at once.

That might result in a serious tea party. No wonder the IRS requires withholding. They know how to boil a frog.

So we should really pity the kids who are saddled with multiple middle names.... but on second thought, the parent calling out the full name would give the kid more time to run.

Welcome to my world! At least I can break it into four "easy" payments throughout the year.

Hey, it's not like I'm loaded or anything, but we clergy are considered "self-employed", so we get the privilege of paying ALL of our own taxes instead of someone taking it out for us and us never seeing it.

If there was no withholding, and people actually knew how much of their check was going to the government, there really would be an uprising! The other thing that I don't get is the people who crow about their huge refunds (in the thousands of $$$) like they are sticking it to the IRS. Don't these people know that if they changed their withholding they would bring home a couple hundred dollars a month more? That's like a new gun every quarter!
