gun mags ads = higher msrp?

over in afghanistan, my bunkbed upstairs neighbor gets nra magazines in the mail, and im first in line to read them when he is done. im wondering if its just his nra magazines or all the handgun magazines that the xd-m has 2 full page ads back to back in every single issue? i wonder how much of that advertising cost goes into the msrp of that pistol.. it says to post in the classifieds section is something like 15 bucks per word, plus extra for addresses.

i know i know... im thinking about it way too much, but those ads are as close as i can get to touching an xd right now lol. so im thinking if it wasnt for these magazines i would have never found out about the xd (i first read about it last deployment in iraq in a shooter magazine)...

so it got me thinking... i know why glock doesnt advertise.... it doesnt need to. of course because its perfection. etc. etc.... but also because when you look at alot of the misc. aftermarket accessories advertisments, they usually show the flashlight, lazer, etc... on a glock lol.

i did see in one issue that glock donated something like 15k to the nra, which was nice. but other than that... no ads.

so what ads do you guys see in the mags that grab your attention?

do you think that pistols like the taurus millennium are over a hundred less because they dont have ads in every magazine? or is it really an inferior quality in parts that leads to the msrp?

also... if you want to donate any old magazines, pm me for my mailing addy. :cheers2:

It's all about perception.

It must be good if it's in all the magazines...so they want you to think.....

....so they can sell more guns...so they can buy more advertising....so they can sell more guns.

The Kahr "Thin is Sexy" ads come to mind...if you need to resort to those types of ads to sell, it's not a company I want to do business with. My $0.02

Guess I haven't bought a gun rag in a while, I used to see them in all the ones I bought. They used to put out a yearly issue too, bet that's not cheap with some much pro-glock stuff to fill the pages.

+1 on the kahr ad. i remember reading once in the "write the editor" in guns n ammo, someone was saying they were offended because they would like to pass their magazines to their grade school kids but the ad was too much (im not saying i agree)... but that ad is pretty halarious because its 99% blonde and 1% gun. you can barely tell what the gun looks like haha.

They're obviously not trying to appeal to the female buyer.

I am not enthralled with the ads Kahr runs. Nor the fact it's owned by a "moonie". I was introduced to the handguns before I knew who or what Kahr was. I was impressed with the weapon and am happy my PM40 nonetheless.

Advertising works. Advertising in gun rags to insure positive editorial comments probably works also. ;-)

That said, my XD45 has worked flawlessly. No complaints. I saw the XDM45 will soon be out.
The XDM9 I have works great also, but seems more of a competition type gun to me.
