This is more detail about the incident in Arlington, Texas where a 40 year old Houston PD
officer (resident of The Woodlands) shot an 18 year old dead.

Notice in the story that the dead man's relative has bad things to say about the HPD officer.

Meanwhile, also note that the dead man had a gun in his waistband. Yes, he was a choirboy.

Mr. Sanders, I thoroughly disagree with your accusation that a child is incapable of inflicting life-threatening injuries that would require the use of deadly force to defend against. As far as how this relates to the investigation I don't think it's time to make any assumptions yet.

Interesting to note that the LEO had been booked for threatening a family member previously. Also interesting is how three shots can turn into six shots fired when they count the exit wounds. Media

An 18 year old highschool sophomore with a gun in his pants and gang ties?? I guess he probably just on his way to volunteer at a soup kitchen.

First of all, every single peron is responsible for his/her own actions. This man, yes I say man, 18 is not a child, chose to carry a gun illegally, he chose to be involved with the people or the situation, and he chose to not listen to the cop. Ultimately he chose his path, 18 years old and a sophomore...Maybe he should have been at home that night studying instead of gang banging so he could graduate before he was 30.

Ammunition is cheap. If you feel someone is a threat, as the officer obviously had determined, then it makes perfect sense to empty a clip. That's a good habit for a variety of reasons.

The news yesterday said "the child" was in the process of beating the HPD LEO's brother with a bat when the cop shot him.

"I feel he was murdered," a cousin of Reynolds, Shametrius Sanders, told WFAA-TV (Channel 8). "No matter whether he was wrong or right, a grown man to empty his gun clip on a child, that was just pure wrong."

So, let me get this straight. An 18 year old is a "child"?

OT Rant mode ON:
I understand that this a relative speaking, but this double standard about those who reach the age of majority really burns me. On the one hand, we are told that we should let these 18 year old "adults" do whatever they wish, because they are grown up now, especially in regards to anything permissive, i.e., let them shack up in a co-ed dorm room (rare, but there are a few), because they are "old enough" to make those decisions.

On the other hand, as soon as it comes down to something dangerous, these same 18 year old "adults" are suddenly "children" that must be protected, i.e., we'll send them into battle at 18, but God forbid that same person should be allowed to carry a gun on a college campus - "These kids shouldn't be exposed to this!!!" is the cry.

Oh, and it sounds like this was a case of a pure, precious snowflake being brutally murdered in the prime of his very-productive-for-society life. Right. Sure.

The neighbor told the paper that he did not see Reynolds point his gun but saw him grab at his pants. An Arlington police officer who responded to the shooting removed the gun from Reynolds' pants, the witness told the paper.

Another witness told WFAA that the scene before the shooting was "a bunch of kids just fighting with the bats and everything." The witness said Baez "identified himself as a police officer," approached the teens and told Reynolds to take his hands out of his pockets, but he refused.

Here is the background... I was at church on Monday, and in the middle of a conversation with a friend of mine, his wife called him. When he got off the phone, he told us that a family friend's son had been beaten nearly to death by a gang and is now in the ICU, struggling for his life. A relative, I think he is the victim's brother, who is an off-duty HPD officer visiting at the time, went outside and confronted the gang. In that confrontation, he shot and killed one of the sweet little angels who had just finished trying to beat his brother to death. As it turns out, the sweet little angel who was shot dead turns out to be a minor in possession of a handgun at the time, and who was clearly reaching for that handgun when our victim's relative shot him dead.

Of course, none of that background story is being reported by the media.
