So, took a late lunch yesterday and I noticed quite a large emergency responder presence off of Wall/Texan Trail behind the Starbucks/office complex there, helicopter buzzing too. Apparently the individual tried to commit suicide with a neckshot, according to my source, but didn't finish the job. He was still pumping en route to John Peter Smith in Ft. Worth. However, the bullet kept on going. Story following. CRAZY. Take a look at the picture.

Bullet into Starbucks

GRAPEVINE — A customer waiting for a cup of coffee at a Starbucks in Grapevine got quite a scare when a bullet whizzed by Thursday afternoon.
Police said it started as an attempted suicide at a residence in the 900 block of East Wall street — but the bullet kept on going.
The projectile traveled across the street and pierced the drive-thru window at the Starbucks at the corner of Business 114 and Texas Trail at around 1:15 p.m.
The bullet sped across the interior of the store and finally lodged inside the men's restroom.
Police said the bullet narrowly missed at least one customer.
The attempted suicide patient was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth for treatment. No additional information was available.

I saw this on the news yesterday with my wife. Is that the one that's on Northwest Highway at Ruth Wall? I kind of forgot that there were houses in the area, since the intersection has not other structures than the buildings in that corner strip mall. The house must have been behind the Starbucks.

Well, the news isn't as bad as I first feared.
The bullet didn't come from someone OC'ing or even concealed
carrying in a Starbucks. The anti's would be all over that story
like lint on a blue suit.

That bullet had quite the long and interesting trajectory.

The news report on TV described it as a .45 caliber bullet (who knows if they knew what they were talking about ). If you look at the area on Google maps, you can see that the distance is an easy 100 yards, plus before entering the Starbucks window, crossing the room, and embedding itself in the bathroom wall, it also had to pass through at least one wall of the home from which the shot originated. I'm thinkin' .44 magnum maybe instead of .45 ACP?

TAM - that's the Starbucks...and yes, the back/drive-thru window. There are some houses there.

Could be. I didn't think of that one since it isn't part of my world... ...meaning that I don't own or carry a .45 LC, and I can't think of anyone off hand that I know who does.

Lots of folks have old single-action 'cowboy' guns and that may have been it. Also, they make a .45 long colt carbine rifle that he might have been using. I think it would be potentially doable to shoot yourself in the neck with a short lever action if you wanted to.

There's no reason .45 ACP couldn't do that. Other than passing through the fool's flesh, it didn't hit anything but glass and the wall. A hundred yards is nowhere near the maximum range of .45 ACP.

I would say that no matter the caliber, it had to be a FMJ.

AH HAH. It's the long lost magical bullet that was fired at JFK from...some would say...the library.

I know it's not, but it started its trajectory from inside his house, so the bullet path actually went through something else too, either a window or wall of his home, before it went downrange. And add to that, even though the dude survived his wound (for the immediate future, anyway), we don't know if it went through bone or not, and not just soft tissue. Bullet drop alone for a 230 grain FMJ at 100 yards is about 15", so the bullet had to have been on an upward trajectory across that distance in order to make it through the elevated drive-though window of the Starbucks, as a line of sight aiming would have made the bullet smack the wall below the drive-through window due to bullet drop. And if it was a hollowpoint, all bets are off.

I'm not saying that it couldn't have happened. I'm just a little bit surprised that it still had enough stank on it to do what it did. Just "lucky," I guess.

Current popular guns right off the top of my head that shoot .45 LC are Bond Arms Snakeslayer, Taurus The Judge, and some model of American Derringer from Waco make pistols that shoot .45 LC (or .410) ....
