Has anyone seen the new S&W Bodyguard 380? It is supposed to be released this month, but I haven't heard of anyone actually seeing one. I'm thinking it would be a good mother's day present.

Looks like S&W's version of the LCP and LCR. The problem for me is that there is no problem with the LCP or LCR. This one comes with a laser, thumb safety, and last round slide lock. There's never an advantage to being the first one on the block to have anything. The first generation of anything is always the most expensive and least reliable. (*cough* IPhone)

Look what happened with the Diamondback .380
If I were looking for a small easily concealable .380 I would go with the Ruger LCP.
It has proven itself to be reliable and well made.
If in the market for a .38 Special, S&W already makes the Airweight model which is only a couple
of ounces heavier than the plastic version of the 5 shot revolvers.

And on top of all that (with which I agree) S&W is misusing the classic "Bodyguard" name which used to represent it's excellent shrouded hammer J-frame revolvers, which cover the hammer so it doesn't snag but still alow the hammer to be manually cocked for single action fire. The models 49/469 and 38/638 are classic S&W J-frame designs all called "Bodyguard". This new polymer 5-shot snub nose is a blatant LCR ripoff with a full concealed hammer.

That was my first thought when seeing it in a magazine a while back.
I guess they see the popularity and want to get in on the action.
