Well, I wasn't there, but this was actually one of the scenarios I've thought about. Wonder how many Hawaiian-Shirted people were in the store at the time??

I live less than a mile away from this Wal-Mart and was home at lunch during the robbery. I wondered why so many sirens were flying by on 380. Guess I know why now!

What would you have expected them to do, if there were?

I'm certainly going to use my gun to defend myself or someone I love. I may use my gun to defend a 3rd party, depending on the circumstances. But I'm not a cop, and I doubt I would try to halt a bank robbery unless I were inside that bank and it was in the course of defending myself.

Just a humorous (or not) thought -- I wasn't suggesting defending the bank. I don't even have any money in there. :biggrinjester: Things would have to get way out of hand before I'd take any action other than being a witness. The thought occurred to me of somebody with a new license, on his wally-walk, getting involved in a bank robbery. :eek6

That would be a crazy first armed walk!

If I was there I wouldn't intervene with the robbery in progress. Unless the robber came toward me with a weapon, I would just be a good witness and wait for police to arrive and convey what I saw.

Ah... Sorry. I didn't pick up on the "humor" part. My bad.

The story mentioned that a note was given. Most bystanders probably just seen someone run off from the bank teller. Unless you see a weapon pointed at someone like a teller it would take 10-20 seconds to process the information by that time there out of the store.

In this situation I would not have gotten involved because no ones life was in imminent danger. I have found being a CHL holder I am actually less confrontational then I was before. Everyone I know who has a CHL says the same thing. I think for me I understand that If needed I can use overwhelming force in most situations and therefore need to be aware of what I am doing.

:iagree:

I try not to go to Wally World unless I have to. Did my "Wally Walk" at Academy.

I was at a Walmart right before the holidays and as I was checking out there was a suspicious character about 2 or 3 lanes over - had a hoody on with the hood up and was acting like he was looking at some items on the shelves but his eyes were looking around the store. He did that for about a minute then went over next to the bank and leaned against the wall looking around. As I left the store I gave a description of him to the "security" person on the way out and explained the "gentleman's" actions. The last I saw he was heading in hoody's direction to check him out and I didn't stay around to see the results.

I was driving west on 380 leaving McKinney yesterday at this time. Two police cars blew past me with lights blazing. As I passed the WalMart, the cops were just pulling in to the parking lot! I was wondering what was going on.

Now I know!

Just like in Batman movies: Teller/cashier pushes button which projects picture of man wearing Hawiian shirt on ceiling. Only walmart has these devices in place to summon help in case of emergency. Utter chaos as hawiian shirts all over the store start rushing to the rescue of someone in distress. Regular customers in fear of being trampled by the herd of Hawiian shirts run for nearest exit, trapping the would be robber/shoplifter/criminal inside the store until REAL LEO can arrive on scene and take would be bg (bad guy/gal) into custody. Auck, foiled again by the Hawiian shirt brigade. Putting an end to crime and violent acts in your neighborhood Walmart. Shop safely folks! :thumbs2: :leaving :thewave

Good grief - I'm one of those Hawaiian shirted guys. I'm in that store almost every day for something or other, but not yesterday. I bet its true that almost no one even knew what was going on until it was over.

A few months ago someone reported two guys sleeping it off in a truck in that parking lot. The McKinney police sent 6 units to cover the desperados. I bet they turned out the whole force yesterday.

I guess I'll have to quit saying how safe it is in my neighborhood - it CAN happen anywhere.

You'd be amazed at what is going in in your neighborhood and you never hear anything about it. Give MPD a call and ask to go on a ride out - you'll see what they go through on a daily basis.

Officers on the scene helped management walk through the store to look for any suspicious packages or devices in the store.

Nothing suspicious was found and the Walmart was reopened.
Sounds like they need to fire an entire shift of police and WalMart management. If you can't find anything suspicious inside a WalMart, it's a miracle that you can remember to breathe.
