Seriously - in Houston

I used part of the same title as the previous American Flag post, as this is a similar story, - but in HOUSTON.

Yesterday, a listener’s son was offended that his school, Klein Collins High School, displayed the Mexican flag prominently. His mother called to complain, and the school wouldn’t return her call. The student took the sign down.
The school pitched a fit, reviewed the surveillance tapes, found the student, and suspended him for 3 days. AND he has to pay for the flag. In light of the SF story of students sent home for wearing the AMERICAN flag because it offended the Hispanic students, I thought you’d like to know about a story closer to home.
Right here in our community. Feel free to let the school know what you think. You pay their salaries.

You realize, I assume, that if a student removed – or even burned – the AMERICAN flag, they wouldn’t do anything about it, I’ll bet.
Why is a MEXICAN FLAG flying in an AMERICAN SCHOOL in the first place!?

A) I support the kids action in removing the flag.
B) I would have supported the school in displaying the flag if it had been done side-by-side with a US flag. I don't support it being displayed on its own. This is not Mexico.

This episode is where the "Seriously?" thread has ended up. I posted a section from the US Code that reads in part:
No person shall display the flag of the United Nations or any other national or international flag equal, above, or in a position of superior prominence or honor to, or in place of, the flag of the United States at any place within the United States or any Territory or possession thereof:
So yeah, I have a real problem with it flying side by side, instead of or on the same standard as the U.S. Flag.

No they wouldn't, I do believe the UN is on UN property and not on American property. Just like the cemetary in France is American property and not French, and embassies are generally the property of the country under which they stand.

Flags can be flow side-by-side with the U.S. flag. The "position of superior prominence or honor" is to the right (the flags' right). So long as the U.S. flag is the right-most flag, other flags can fly on separate poles at the same height.
That's how they do it at the "welcome to Texas" rest stops.

Note that I underlined the part saying no national or international flag shall be flown
equal to the U.S. Flag. Flags flown to the flag's left are not "equal". The U.S. flag is also to be raised first and lowered last. As to the embassies and the UN, the UN HQ is specifically addressed and the embassies are sovereign territory of their respective countries.

One of the pages I saw showed that, not only was the Mexican flag above the American flag, but the American flag was being flown upside down.

While I don't like the display, I'll bet they justify the suspension on grounds of messing with school property.
If they wanted to do a cinco de mayo display, there are better ways to do it.

If the government did not run schools then schools could cater to any clientele they wanted and it would not be our tax dollars supporting it. This would leave less to be upset about.

Those were not the flags that were being flown at Klien, Radio station KPRC posted an inflamatory but stock photo and posted it on their website, I think Drudge might have even posted the photo. KPRC was being a little inflamatory, but Michael Berry on Friday still claimed he didn't see anything wrong with posting that photo.

I was listening to the Walton and Johnson show this morning on the drive in when a lady called in and said she had just dropped her son off at the school in question. Evidently there was a heavy police presence at the school and they were escorting the hispanic students into the school.

My son attends Krimmel Middle School in the Klein School District. His last name is Polish, but he is a tad over half Hispanic.
I wonder if I should have escorted him to school this morning.
