JUNEAU - A 24-year-old Juneau woman went into a public restroom packing heat and left burned.
The Juneau Police Department reports Veronica Balle-Arnes was carrying a Ruger .380 - a small pocket pistol - worth about $400 with her Friday night.
She told police she took the gun out of her waistband and set it on top of a toilet paper dispenser in the women's room at the Fisherman's Wharf, a building on Juneau's downtown waterfront with a bar, eateries and shops.
She told police she forgot to pick it back up. When she realized it was missing a few moments later, she returned to the restroom but the gun was gone.

This was spoofed on Saturday Night Live's "Weekend Update" skit on 5/8/10.

I saw that slit and wondered if it was a true story or not.

Alaska prices. Add 25%+ for everything.
I believe this woman just learned a sad lesson: she did the right thing in reporting, and suffered because of it. Not only is her gun gone, but so is her right to carry one.

You must be speaking for Anchorage and those "other cities near Hawaii". North of Fairbanks and it's MUCH higher

I remember, a couple of years back, a Met Police close protection officer did the same, in a Starbucks.

At the time, I thought it was unbelievably foolish. Then I moved to TX, got my CHL and found out just how awkward a bathroom break can be.

Thats the only thing I can come up with.

Argh!
I mistook the headline to mean she had lost her carry permit. I totally glossed over it being a Ruger LCP. So, I thought she lost her pistol, reported it, and had her license yanked.
Sorry!

I know that the cost of living in Alaska is atronomical on everyday items. I still think if someone is paying that extra premium for specialty items such as firearms which are readily available over the internet, they are paying too much.
