First Encounter Since Receiving CHL

Friday evening we (me, my wife and four kids) were headed to a church event. As we were going thru an intersection a driver who was stopped in a left turn lane got impatient and started to pull into our lane of traffic. His bumper collided with the driver's side of our van scrapping / denting it from behind the front wheel to the back wheel. As I pulled over to check the damage and trade insurance info he took off. Unfortunately we couldn't get a license tag number.

We live in a subdivision that is patrolled by Harris County Precint 5 constables so we called them instead of HPD. The officer who arrived asked for my ID & insurance. I handed her my cards and CHL. She took a quick look at the CHL, handed it back and didn't say a word about it during the entire time she took the accident report. She handled everything very professionally and got us on our way. I hope that all of my LEO contacts are this painless.

I've got to add that the Precint 5 neighborhood patrol is top notch. Quick to respond, top notch folks. I'm always glad when I see them cruising thru the neighborhood.

I really hate to hear about hit and runs. I'm glad you and the family are okay.

More than likely you would be arrested for, at minimum, negligent discharge of a firearm. Leaving the scene is NOT a reason you would even pull your gun.

That thought never even entered my mind. Seems like a way to escalate the situation and place my family at risk.
