A biblical verse and a topical comment...

“As a dog returns to his vomit, so a fool doth repeat his folly.” Proverbs 26:11

Heard this again, this morning...

“Who is more the fool, the fool that leads, or the fool that follows...” —Obi Wan Kenobi

What I have to wonder is, are any of us really foolish for allowing the fools leading us down a path that we know will lead to our destruction???

Nero fiddled while Rome burned...

What will our leaders be doing when we burn???

And can we even stop the fire from spreading already???

Maybe some are not ready to sacrifice enough to stop this...Maybe it hasn’t hit us hard enough...

Maybe Schmaybe...

What I wonder is, if we agree and dissagree to varying levels, aren’t we all aware, or at least heading in the same direction, to finding a conclusive solution...

Or are we following fools???

[Steve slinks back into the nether regions of deep thoughts] ;-)

Quite rousing, well done.

IMHO, the left and the right are equally to blame for our current woes. One of the single most evil acts in the history of mankind was the advent of the entity known as "The Corporation". It gives those that have a stranglehold on the resources of this world the means to continue making money without suffering the perils of mismanagement (despite what the law books may say in that regard).

Our politicians do not have our interest at heart and probably never will. The only thing you can do is to continue to oppose their insidious, continuous and nefarious efforts to subvert our freedom.

Now to go get some more coffee...

Not to stray off topic, but to say that The Corporation is evil makes about as much sense to me as saying that The Gun is evil. Yes, corporations (as well as trusts, LLCs, and sole proprietorships, not to mention governments and other institutions) have be instruments of evil, but how are any of them inherently evil entities? Respectfully, J.R.

By creating an artificial entity that is effectively immune to the moral and civil obligations that the rest of humanity have a tendency to adhere to.

Power corrupts. Too much power in the hands of mega corporations who then wield vast amounts of money to influence politicians and lawmaking is a problem. The financial laws put in place right after the great Depression were slowly dropped through this process and then you and I, and our great grandchildren, had to bail the greedy fools out. Again because those corporations held too much power over our government.
But, as the video points out; We, The People can re-establish control over our nation if we all just get involved enough to make it happen! :patriot:

I recall Enron executives staying in the graybar hotel.... I'm just sayin'...

On top of which, I'm not clear on how a company can sell its stock on the market if it is not a corporation... So while one could certainly argue that there ought to be stringent punishments for corporate executives who direct or oversee their companies in the commission of crimes, it is hard to see how the economy would function without corporations.

On the note of Enron folks, that is a demonstration of just how rarely anyone is convicted and sent to the big-house for mismanagement of a corporation - and - a fine example of how a Corporation can and frequently becomes a tool to be used by bad people.
On another note, I really don't like the concept of stock either. Perhaps that is why my major is certainly NOT in Economics.

Agreed. I was just pointing out that it does happen from time to time.

Many people agree with you. On this, I disagree. We could not enjoy the benefits of investment capitalism without stock. Without stock, your computer and mine would likely not exist. The problem isn't the nature of stocks. The problem is that our culture is increasingly amoral, and thus some stock traders, and some corporate officers feel no particular compunction against violating either the law, or the trust placed in them to properly manage their shareholders' investment. And that is a matter of the human heart.

So the answer is not to get rid of stocks, but instead, because they are so integral to our economy, step up the rate of prosecution for violations of the laws, and to make the punishments so stiff that the crimes are not worth the risk of getting caught. Personally, my opinion is that if a financial crime condemns retirees — who have faithfully invested all their lives and responsibly managed their assets so as to have a retirement fund — to a life of poverty and want during their remaining years, then that crime deserves the death penalty, and it should be swiftly executed. You kill enough financial pirates for their piracy, and all of a sudden, their bloated salaries suddenly seem more attractive to them than the illicit millions they can make by hosing their investors.

This is what I was trying to say earlier, but for my lack of wisdom, experience, and caffeine.

I agree with you guys about stiffening laws, penalties and actually enforcing them. My problem with the whole banking industry and the house-of-cards that our economy sits on is that those folks in the Finance Industry in general will always find a new way to get around a better mouse-trap. They have, and they continue to do so every day.
