The way some new applications, as well as renewals, are whizzing through the system has me somewhat curious but not enough people have their city in the profile for me to tell if their counties are affecting the time to approval. Some are whizzing by and some are languishing.

It "kind of" looks like the fast processing is happening in smaller counties (or some countines). Maybe. Perhaps a better way to put it is some counties may be slow on background checks.
My hypothesis is that Dallas and Harris counties, perhaps others slow down the Background Check.

Anyone mind putting in some data on their time from mailing application to completion of application or time to completion of background check (everyone may not rememember this one but I am guessing unless there is an exception in the application it is the last thing completed).? I believe it will be interesting.

If you will, how about putting in the:

Date posting,
1) County,
2) New or renewal,
3) Date application mailed or completed online,
4) Date background check completed if you noted it (or processing completed or the best date you have).
Put in your days to plastic also if you wish.

Thanks! If you don't have exact data how about your county and the best estimates you have or just completion or receipt?

I believe the background check is local that I am referencing.
This is not the only place it states it but this is from the state in FAQ. I bolded part.

I have checked my application online and it says, “processing”. I have received this message for the last few weeks, what does this mean?

This just means that your application has been put in the system. Once the application has been entered into the system the process is split into different areas. We send your fingerprints over to the Department’s Crime Records Bureau, Fingerprint Section for the computerized background checks through the state and FBI.

Information is shared with local agencies in all the places you have lived in the past 5 years so the local department employees can perform a background check. The local background check will include a review of any county records including, but not limited to, any local arrest records that may not have been forwarded to the Department’s Crime Records Bureau.

We will check local tax records for school, property and city taxes owed or delinquent. We will also check local Justice Courts and Municipal Courts for any disqualifying Class C misdemeanor convictions.

If there is something in your background that may be disqualifying, we will then send a request for documents to you. You will have 90 days to respond to that letter requesting documents. If we do not receive the documents during that time frame your application will be terminated as incomplete.

Hey! That sounds like a Minnesota accent! Well, Fargo was on the other night and that stoic Minnesota Sheriff (or deputy, I'd say kookie female cop but I'd have to answer for that I bet) kept saying "Well, there ya go" if I remember correctly. :-)

But, it may not be consistent in a county but I do believe some counties slow down the process.
