Got it in!!

Just got my Texas CHL in! (My Utah one came in a couple of days ago) After a long long wait of 2 or so months from the class I can finally carry. So of course I had to go get a holster that I could conceal (G19) went over to Elk Castle, found a perfect IWB holster for me, my other one is OWB and rides kind of low, with me being a small framed guy (5'10" 140lb) that just doesn't work for me.

Anyways, got the holster put the gun in and rode off to Burger King and then my Harley shop to pick up a service manual (which they just sold the last one of earlier, nuts). I ended up impressed by how comfortable and easy it is to ride a bike with a holster on, and really easy to conceal under my armored jacket.

I guess I have to go to Wal-Mart tomorrow though :biggrinjester:

So what is the advantage of having the Utah license? Are there states it is recognized where our TX one isn't?

I believe that is correct.
Another advantage is that in the event that your Texas CHL is ever
lost or stolen, you are still covered until a replacement is issued.

The Utah permit gives you the states of Washington, Ohio and West Virginia, according to the reciprocity map in "New to CHL".

lost, stolen or suspended or revoked. Seems Texas may revoke or suspend a license when the holder is CHARGED with various crimes. Utah only does so if the holder is CONVICTED. Therefore if you were involved in a shooting, and subsequently charged with a crime, Texas could suspend or revoke your Texas license (and confiscate your firearm). You could then carry under the Utah license with a different firearm, until the issue is resolved.

You're going to have to explain that to me. My understanding is that you must abide by the laws of the state you are in (with regard to reciprocity), not the laws of the state where your license was issued. It seems to me that means you'd have to stop carrying, even with the Utah license, in order to be in compliance in Texas. Am I mistaken about that? Any lawyers hanging around here want to comment?

The Utah license is independent of the Texas license. You don't need a Texas license to have a Utah License. You DO still have to abide by Texas laws. Texas law does NOT say you can't carry if you're charged, just that the Texas license is revoked or suspended. So under those circumstances, you can't carry under the Texas license, but the Utah license is still good, and Texas recognizes it. That's my understanding.

Try explaining that to the police officer while he's cuffing you. He'll probably think you're drunk when you show him the Utah CHL and try to explain...

So the only real advantage of Utah license is being able to carry in Washington, Ohio and West Virginia. I guess it's worth it if you travel there often or have family there.

Texas doesn't allow open carry for good guys so nobody should know you're carrying until you shoot a bad guy.

What's to explain? You have a valid Utah license to carry. Texas recognizes it. That's all that is needed.

:iagree: This

If an officer doesn't agree I can have him phone his supervisor, or pull out the memo from the governor to all law enforcement stating the agreement with Utah.
