Hello all im new to this discussion board and I just wanted to thank everyone for the information on this board. I will be taking my CHL course in July and My Neighbor a local police officer told me not to get the CHL because the CHL is useless and you are not able to carry in most stores...This puzzeled me because if this was true why would anyone spend the money to get the CHL. I went to the internet and finally found this board which has answered all my questions. It is however troubling that an officer of the law doesnt know the law. that or he doesnt want anyone to carry a weapon other than cops.

Welcome to the forum Crackin5.
I believe you have received bad information on the most part by your Police Officer neighbor.
There are really very few stores and other places that post the correct signage that would legally
prohibit you from carrying a firearm into an establishment.
There are some places that are a definite no no such as Post Offices and Schools.
For the most part I have rarely ever seen a "proper" sign in my daily travels.
You have come to the right place for answers. We look forward to your future posts and questions.

Yes, we recently had a shooting at a Hastings store, thats when I said that I was going to get my CHL, He said "Why you cant carry in there anyways or most places" so I went by the Hastings store and there was no proper signs posted.

Welcome to forum.
Yes, it is a shame that some people (LEOs and also other CHL holders) are sometimes misinformed about the true facts concerning legal carry. Make sure you are not. If in doubt a question posted here or a search of the topic will give you, at the very least, a well researched answer.
BTW - This board nor its members are responsible for you becoming addicted to constantly viewing and reading its posts at all hours of the day and night.

Have a daughter who lives on Stearns not far from Hastings. When she heard this was going on she picked up Ruger Sp101, the granddaughter and boarded up till she heard it was over.

Tell your police officer neighbor he should read this forum too. He might learn something. Better yet, sign up and join in. Plenty of LEOs, retired LEOs, etc are members here.
