So I had some one try to tell me that it's 5 years from the date my probation ends. The law I thought was pretty clear.
(8) has not, in the five years preceding the date of application, been convicted of a Class A or Class B misdemeanor or an offense under Section 42.01, Penal Code;
Am I missing something here or will I be okay in Aug ( date of my conviction) My arrest day was may 18th 2005. I've since polished my decision making skills :)

It is, indeed, 5 years from the date of conviction. The date you went to court. It has nothing to do with your probation period, or your date of arrest. So, you need to know your conviction date to determine your eligibility date.
Looks like you will be good to go in August. Congrats on polishing your decision making skills!

Thanks, I've already picked up my carry weapon and have been getting some range time in. I really like this gun ( G 19)

My wife has a G19, based on her experience renting one from Crossfire when she took Crossfire's CHL class. She really likes her's too. The problem is, my wife is generally unwilling to make any fashion changes to accomodate the larger pistol, so she winds up carrying a 642 revolver every day. But you've made a good choice in pistols. The G19 is a good gun.

IANAL but I believe the person is confusing conviction with differed adjutication (SP). The 5 year period starts at the end of the adjudication period.

Just an update. I DID get my CHL approved.
That's as of today!
