Waiting for iPhone 4

I used to think that waiting for the first CHL was torture.
I am currently feeling a lot of de-ja-vu as I try to get an iPhone 4.
I originally thought I would go stand in line on the 29th with all the Geeks, but then realized, I'm too old for that action anymore.
So, I ordered one online from Apple and after the end of the order process on June 28th, I noticed that the shipping date of my order would be JULY 20 and delivery of JULY 23rd!
I canceled my order from Apple on June 29th for the phone (the dock that I also ordered had shipped). Then I ordered from AT&T which had advertised a 7-10 business delivery.
It has only been 3 Days since that AT&T order but I must have checked the status 50 times and it still says processing and back ordered. Others who have ordered thru AT&T on the 29th received theirs in as little as 2 days, others are waiting like me. It appears that those that ordered the 16bg got them quicker than the 7-10 Business days and those that ordered the 32gb (like me) will wait the full length of time and ........possibly more?.......
So, it does remind me a lot of the first CHL wait!

I'm glad I didn't get my iPhone 4 when it came out...I just found out that Verizon will likely offer them starting Q1 of 2011!
AT&T has one of the worst networks in NYC (and I travel there quite a bit for work) so I'll hold off!

Verizon is not an option for me in this rural area. Only Sprint (which I am using a Mi-Fi to type this), but the tower is far away from me and signal drop is noticeable.
The AT&T tower is only 3 miles from me but it is running on EDGE only but I have been told by AT&T bigshots that it will be upgraded to 3G in the next couple of weeks.
Even if the AT&T tower is not upgraded (as people do lie from time to time) I can get the 3G by using the iPhone 4 in Wi-Fi mode while at home and in range of the Sprint Mi-Fi. That gives me 5gb data on Sprint and 2gb data on AT&T available.
I have been with AT&T since 2005 and have had no problems with their service.

This is when I don't tell you that my wife and I pre-reserved phones, got in line at 0545 on launch day (#550/551 in the line) and got our phones by 0930?

Yea, I missed that pre-order window on the 14th-15th.
Sounds like you made out pretty well with only 4 hours in line.
I've heard stories of those that waited as long as 12-18 hours only to be told when they got to the front that there were no 32gb phones left! Apparently it was a store option (as opposed to Corp instructions) to go out to the line and match up peeps in line with quantities of 16gb/32gb to eliminate this long wait for something that was sold out while they were in line.
So, how do you like them so far? Any problems with signal or functions as some others have reported?

The wait is well worth it. Love mine. Ordered on ATT's website on Thursday and it got here friday.
The facetime setup is extremely cool assuming you know others with the iphone4. Patience grasshoppa.

HAHA !
It is my understanding that not only do you have to call someone with a iPhone 4 but it has to be done on Wi-Fi (not thru towers) to use the facetime function.
In any case, I will be PM'ing you when I get mine and try the facetime with you if that's OK.

You are correct, sir! Facetime only works on wifi, not 3G.
Feel free to call me the moment you get it online. Oh and remember that if you have a iphone currently you will need to call 611 on it to deactivate. Otherwise activation will take forever!

We love our iPhones!
We don't really use Facetime, and I think it's pretty useless without being able to use it on the AT&T network, but I'm guessing AT&T isn't yet ready to help us enter the Dick Tracey era yet, but will likely offer the service in a few months.

ATT's network will get killed if they open up facetime usage on 3G. The infrastructure is not there currently.

I have had every version of the iPhone but do not yet have the iPhone 4. Im waiting to see if they get that antenna issue resolved. Regardless the iPhone is something that i really enjoy. So many useful apps, plus I got movies on it and stuff. The facetime would be awesome if you didnt need wi-fi to use it.

Ordered my iPhone 4 last week. Sounds like the "bumper" is the only solution to the phone till they redesign/re-manufacture the body. I always keep my phones protected so this was not a deal breaker for me. I'm really looking forward to dumping my crackberry!
Kinda bummed about the bloodshed my mac and forthcoming iPhone is causing the Congo. That place was such a peaceful community of love and understanding until diamonds and technology came along! Darn that stuff!

The bigger problem that hasn't recieved any coverage is the proximity sensor. It is not sensitive enough and I am always cheek dialing, hanging up, muting, three way calling. No fix yet but hopefully a firmware or software issue. This is my second 4 g and the same issue. Look on the Apple site, user forum for more detail.
