Road Trip to New Jersey

I am taking a road trip to New Jersey come January and am looking for advice. Besides the map showing which states have reciprocity from here to there but once I get there I don't know what to do. Any one know about the rules on keeping the firearm stored in the car while in New Jersey and Maryland. Or a good online resource to look at? Thank you!

so while I am in the state of New Jersey and Maryland I need to keep the gun and ammo secured in separate locations or containers?

Q. Can I legally transport firearms interstate? (From the MD State Police)
A. Yes, under Title 18, Section 926A, of the United States Code, a person=who is not prohibited from possessing, transporting, shipping, or receiving a firearm shall be entitled to transport a firearm for any lawful purpose from any place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm to any place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm if, during such transportation the firearm is unloaded, neither the firearm nor any ammunition being transported is readily accessible or is directly accessible from the passenger compartment. In the case the vehicle does not have a compartment separate from the driver's compartment the firearm or ammunition shall be contained in a locked compartment other than the glove compartment or console.
Question: How do you transport firearms? (From NJ State Police) Answer Firearms shall be carried unloaded and contained in a closed and fastened case, gunbox, securely
tied package, or locked in the trunk of the automobile in which it is being transported.
Ammunition must be transported in a separate container and locked in the trunk of the automobile in which it is being transported. If the vehicle does not have a compartment separate from the passenger compartment, the firearm must be in a locked container other than the vehicle's glove compartment or console.

IIRC, you can't possess hollow point ammo in NJ.

Yeah I thought that would be the case. But I would rather have it for 3/4 of the trip than not all.

Doesnt "transporting " assume you are not stopping ?
In other words - If your destination is NJ and you stay a week - I doubt the transport exception still applies

HAHAHA Funny, read the rest. It is her sister she wants to see. Went to the website suggested and am waiting for feed back. But it sounds like from there that NJ does not follow FOPA. Or considers visiting not to fall under FOPA.
Wish they would move back to texas or somewhere that reciprocity.

You cannot legally possess a handgun in New Jersey, whether it is loaded, unloaded, in a lock box or not. No handgun. Period.
Since that is your destination, federal safe passage rules do not apply. You can't even bring it on the trip unless there is somewhere you can stash it outside of New Jersey state lines.

Unless you have some out of state fliers or advertisements or some such printed up so you can say your just passing thru, like staying the night at a relatives to save money on a hotel as your on your way to Maryland. Then the federal transport stuff would work, but your at the will of an LEO that could be having a bad day.

Not many Civil War sites in New Jersey. There are more than a few in Virginia, a big one in PA and another in MD that come to mind.
'Fess up, you just want to go to
Joisey and maybe see where Sonny Corleone got whacked on the
Joisey Turnpike. BTW, Sonny didn't have his CC when he got whacked.
